I never understood the notion. What about those who literally devoted their life to religion (ministers, priests, nuns, monks), can you discuss religion or politics with them? You can be tolerant without becoming angry or disrespectful.

To answer your question: I have no clue.

Everyone's mother and daughter because they didn't want to hear arguing during dinner...

I think originally it was just part of polite society and being proper. There were times and places just not the dinner table.

This is very common in the UK. It’s considered inappropriate to bring either up in normal conversation. You really need to sound out who you’re talking to if you want to discuss either if you don’t want to look weird in the UK.

GK Chesterton sounds like an interesting guy to talk to, cos I like discussing heavy topics.

But its not a "never". Its more about situations where the discussion could devolve into acrimony and ruin conviviality.

My mother forced this rule on the family-at-large back in the 70's to keep large family get to together civil. It has worked so long that we have to tell the 3rd generation about it.

We might learn much by conversation , but much of what i have learned and heard through conversation amounted
to , not much . now its true the heart o man can be expressed at times through converstaion .
For i have spoken to many and they have spoken to me . And what i heard from their lips
DID NOT HONOR GOD OR CHRIST , even from the many who used HIS name .
I am not against conversation .
I am , however agaisnt the idea the LIE , the lie of the father of lies
who is trying to get us to NOT TALK ABOUT JESUS THE CHRIST and the DIRE NEED TO REPENT TO BELIEVE ON HIM
with others . WHO is saying dont talk bible talk and etc . I DONT HEED no such voice .
You see the devil has brought a religoin , a mindset , a love if you will call it love , cause he do call it love ,
but this idea , this love , this concept is not about THE SALVATION OF SOULS NOR ABOUT THE CORRECTION
or TRUE EDIFICATION of the CHURCH either .
ITS About ONE THING . Reconciling man to man . NOT TO GOD . about getting us all to find common ground
NOT UNDER GOD , but with one another .
And the god it presents and the love it presents , well it serves only one god .

HOW COME I DIDNT CAPTILIZE that god . and it can use the name of JESUS TOO only it will present another jesus
another gospel by means of another love that came of the world .
This love god i seem to see so many desiring to sit under and to take heed unto

and it will accept and even honor certain sins and false religoins as valid .
ITS THE DEVIL all right . HE who can quoate verbatum the scripture .
AND due to most dont have the LOVE OF GOD , the LOVE for TRUTH within them
they sure seem to LOVE to sit under its version and its image of what IT SAYS IS GOD .
NOW THIS is a general reminder . i have accused no one here of doing any such thing .
I SIMPLY SAID IT cause EVEN MOST OF CHRISTENDOM is now under its common ground unity
false love DELUSION and they have ZERO Idea they are .
now for MORE INFO about THAT , i suggest we open THE BIBLE and get real busy again learning that BOOK .
cause the devil knows how to use scrips and to twist them to cause one to believe a lie .

DING DING . we got us a WINNER FOLKS . this is exactly the reason behind this stuff .
You see , even i myself have zero hope in politics , ONLY IN GOD
but , this here childeye two , HE or she IS RIGHT . THEY REALLY WANT TO SILENCE THE GOSPEL
and BIBLICAL CORRECTION that exposes SIN .
What they want is a people who attack fundamental core beliefs .
And why would they want that one might ask .
WHY would they want to even try and remove core fundamental beliefs .

anything a govt do that is CONTRARY TO GOD .
now they will go after even the false religoins too .
because even the false religoins , FALSE AS THEY ARE and FALSE as they be
WILL STILL PUT their image of what they so think is GOD , first .
THEY NEED A PEOPLE who will put SIE ORDER FIRST and TRUST IN MAN to lead them to safety and to utopia .
AND YET its not about that to these fellows . TIS really only to decieve humanity
into following them , cause they will give them this peace n safety uotpia
BUT REALLY ITS ALL ABOUT POWER AND CONTROL for these elites .
AND if we want to get real honest , ITS THE DEVIL WORKING through men to build the empire of the beast
and to make ready a people to serve said beast AS ONE mind and one heart and to come against
the true lambs WHO DID NOT CONFORM , who did not worship the image

They slick my friend . very slick . he who has been in the garden knows how to decieve and to allure and will join
the tribes and relgions of earth to be as one .
IT knows how to silence the oppostion . YOU make the voice , or the topics seem BAD .
and that its all about just trying to get along .
SO away with politics , away with religion , away with topics that speak truth and of absolute truth .
You silence the sheep by making the one who speaks truth seem as though they are the OPPRESOR
and that those who they correct , THE VICTIM .
HOW do you silence the voice of your oppostion so as none will heed them and at most they think you crazy and hateful .
WELL first you break down the idea there is ABSOLUTE TRUTH
then as you turn it into a liquid
you reshape it into an idea that by all means will be seen as Aboslute truth . even though they cry absolutely there is no absolute truth .
YOU BRING IN a common concept that all humanity has . That is the idea of doing good to others and feeding the poor etc .
now even the false religoins believe that , EVEN CHRIST taught to do good to others and etc .
BUT YOU USE his teachings in a way , to support your view and to contradict Many other teachings oF SAID JESUS .
YOU find the concept all religoins had in common . AND EVERY RELIGOIN does teach about doing good works
and doing good to others . SO THEN you PUT the focus ON THAT
and all the while you make doctrine seem less and less important , more in the way and you make your version of love
seem as though ITS THE ONLY WAY . the only way to attain even world peace n safety .
And everyone wants a piece of that pie . THE ONLY PROBLEM IS
JESUS THE CHRIST , THE DIRE NEED TO REPENT and BELIEVE ON HIM and ALL HIS TEACHINGS
GETS REMOVED . because if one says JESUS BE THE ONLY way , and a muslims says HIS way be the only way
and a etc says, THEN HOW CAN THEY UNITE . SO YOU MAKE DOCRTRINES SEEM not important and this other love stuff as THE GOAL
HOW do you convince the world and its religoins to serve you .
HOW do you get control of the world .
BY DOING as i wrote above . GIVE THEM an idea , a love , a common concept of what in part all teach
MERGE THEM UNDER THAT . break down all core fundamental beliefs .
EVER wonder why you heard key concepts like , BREAKING DOWN WALLS , BRIDGE BUILDERS
FINDING COMMON GROUND . THESE FOLKS KNOW how to present it to each relgioin and each denomination
as well as through media , education and science and etc . THEY BEEN DOING IT FOR YEARS .
Satan is very wise my friend . and these men have no idea its who they been following either .
EVEN the church , in large has become the enemy of biblical truth , of that GOD and HIS CHRIST
and yet have no idea they have . IF JESUS were to return as a man
and the apostles wtih him and then paul too , and they came into most churches
GUESS what they would be told . AWAY WITH YOU HATERS , you know neither GOD , JESUS THE CHRIST OR LOVE .
