  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What about this Peace Plan?

You might get a ceasefire if…
1. Neutral UN Blue Helmets
2. Belarus is banned from nato.

You might get Russia to pull out some troops if…
1. Formal ownership of Crimea
2. Georgia is banned from nato.
3. Kazakhstan is banned from nato.
Anyone else want to talk about this?

If NATO would just admit they make a mistake,
and got too close to the Russian border,
that would help the peace process.
Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia apparently made the mistake of being too close to Russia. There should be a buffer...

1. Poland is Not on Russia’s main border.

2. The 3 tiny countries,
with 3 tiny populations,
with 3 tiny borders.
Don’t really seem like a threat to Russia.

Oh, yeah, that's right. "Kaliningrad" is now part of Czechia.

You have the threat vector backward. Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia deserve a buffer between them and Russia, not the othr way around.

And.... ?

Was Ukraine a "threat to Russia"? Which country did the invading?

If Russia is viewed as a threat to the Baltic states, how much Russian land do you think they should take if they invade?

Why are you so singularly focused on Russia's interests?

Empathy can help us find a peace plan.

Can you see things from their point of view?
Certainly. Putin wants Ukraine because it is a breadbasket, exporting over 20% of the world's food grains. He wants control of the Black Sea because China is trying to rebuild the Silk Road and Putin wants to own the western end of it.

They let Finland and Sweden join NATO.
Russia couldn't stop it if they tried. Only members of NATO can prevent a new member. Why do you continue to post such ignorant nonsense?

Unfortunately, I really can't put myself in the shoes of a dictator who launches unprovoked wars of aggression, supports war crimes, has his political opponents murdered, embezzles tens or hundreds of billions of dollars from the national economy and has foreign nationals locked up to use as international bargaining chips.

If Russia had empathy, it wouldn't have launched an offensive war in the first place.

If you want a peace plan, how about you start with the nation that LAUNCHED THE WAR IN THE FIRST PLACE??

Russia didn't "let" Finland and Sweden do anything.

Both are sovereign nations. Both can make the defense arrangements as they see fit.

If Russia doesn't like them entering multilateral defense agreements, then maybe it shouldn't give its neighbours reasons (oh so many reasons) to enter such agreements.
