  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

At the Medina Square Farmer's Market two weeks ago, this guy approached us while we were praying. It was an interesting conversation with his beliefs and that Christianity took the name of God from a god of wind...?

From reading his signs he's sin-focused.

That is the person who posted the video, that is his signs and yes he is very sin focused. As he believes a person must repent to be saved.

When I talk to someone about Jesus I talk about my sins and what Jesus did for me.
-
Well i do not bring up sin as Jesus has taken away the sin of the world. I go directly to their beliefs and what they believe.

So i will ask how or what do you believe. How does a person become a born again child of God.

If they give a I do not know or a being good person, or a works based answer, like go to church and live a life of obedience, be baptized, etc..

I will tell them (that is if they want to know) how The Bible states a person becomes a born again child of God. By belief in Jesus and then i will explain what believing in Jesus is and is not.

They may not be your signs but you're part of the group and continued to participate in spite of them. Have you considered the impact your presence could have on the vendors? We have many farmers who come from different states to attend our market and some have to leave the day before. They rely on the venue to support their families. But you couldn't do the same on a job nor could the others. And I'm surprised you weren't reported.

I appreciate your opinion, Bèlla. This farmer's market is most likely not like your farmer's market. If I had to guess, there's maybe 2 or 3 who are probably actually farmers. Everyone else is could be selling things from chocolate chip cookies to clothing, and even windows. I usually either do my own signs or pass out Gospel tracts and engage in conversations. These signs do get my friend into conversations and to share the Gospel with people who may not have otherwise stopped.

The day of this video we had three people approach us thanking us for being out there. One was two younger guys who even wanted to pray with us. I've even had vendors who appreciate us being there (and it's amazing how generous they are by offering their products to us).

As for being reported, he has but it's public property and this is protected by the First Amendment.

Good on you David. Keep it up.

"The Law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul" Ps 19:7
"Through the Law comes the knowledge of sin." Rom 3:20
Some people will try to delete the commandments saying they no longer matter. They say we no longer need to leave our sins. They teach false teachings even though they have been shown verses that tell the truth. And yes, there are verses that say to be saved, we need to believe, but then they ignore the rest of the bible. "This people honours Me with their lips, But their heart is far away from Me. And in vain do they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men." These people override the commands and ignore them. If we truly believe our sin put Jesus on the cross, then we will want to leave it. We would not want to put another nail in the cross. True belief will have actions with it and so we will leave our sin.

I love these sorts of interactions. So much of mission work is the engagement, conversation and outreach--long before these became terms for social media. It's reaching out and listening first, and then finding a way for souls to connect. Thanks for recording and sharing this!

Here is a post that I saw a couple of years ago.
"Here are more biblical examples of how Christ witnessed to the unsaved: 1. the rich young ruler (Mark 10:17-22); the scribe (Mark 12:28-34); the lawyer (Luke 10:25-29); the adulterous woman (John 8:3-9); and one example of His interactions with the Pharisees, whom He referred to as a "brood of vipers" and "whitewashed tombs" (Luke 16:14-28). Not once, do I read Jesus ever telling sinners that "God loves them and has a wonderful plan for their lives." He preached the Law of God while confronting sinners (whether gently or harshly as He did with the religious Pharisees), and He preached repentance. He used the moral Law in conjunction with future punishment. Why did He openly confront people about their sinful nature and the righteousness of God? The answer is quite simple. Because He loved them. He was not afraid of being politically incorrect or offending. He was not afraid of rejection or ridicule. He did not shy away from using words like sin, repentance, judgment, or hell. How can we, as His followers, not follow His example? Look at Paul, Peter, John, James, and Stephen. Moreover, Martin Luther, Charles Spurgeon, John Wesley, and D.L. Moody. Read about these great men of God and learn how they sought to save the lost."
