  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This was an unforced error...

I think the unforced error was in attending this conference unprepared for the hostility.
That's a good point. The first question was obviously too tough of a question for Trump to answer without looking dodgy. Instead of even trying to answer he resorted to the usual strategy of an ad hominem attack.

Race is not a concept in biology.
What is the meaning of race of person?

Formally defined, race is an arbitrary classification of modern humans, sometimes, especially formerly, based on any or a combination of various physical characteristics, as skin color, facial form, or eye shape.

Do these things come from a persons genetic make up?

Race and ethnicity ... is kind of complicated ... here is a pretty good article about it I think.

"Race" vs. "Ethnicity": Why These Terms Are So Complex

Regardless of either ... we should look at the party's platforms of where they want to lead the country .... and HOW they intend to accomplish that. I don't care about a persons race or ethnicity. I do care about individual freedom verses collectivism.

The key word in that efinition is 'arbitrary'.

No, I don't know that to be true. Those white people who "identified as black" like Rachel Dolezal were mocked.

Right, because that's the makeup of her heritage.
One can identify as anything they want these days ,, it don't matter if they are mocked or not

self-i·den·ti·fy

So what do you think the "inherited, characteristic traits" of Jamaicans and South Asian are? Genetically, how would you distinguish them from say a person of Northern European ancestry?
Personally ... I don't care about such things ... there is the human race. Race should not be a factor of how we treat one another ... but that is not what mankind does to varying degrees ....

In the 19th century, many scientists subscribed to the belief that the human population can be divided into races. The term racism is a noun describing the state of being racist, i.e., subscribing to the belief that the human population can or should be classified into races with differential abilities and dispositions, which in turn motivates a political ideology in which rights and privileges are differentially distributed based on racial categories

So, once again ... science got it wrong by "categorizing/classifying" humans... if the human race was never "categorized/classified" in the first place then would racism exist?

You are correct. Today, there are no biological human races. Race is a cultural construct.

It was a popular doctrine among creationists of the time. Anti-Darwinian Louis Agassiz (otherwise a fine scientist) denied that black people were descended from Adam and Eve. As late as the 1990s, ICR founder Henry Morris was claiming genetic and spiritual inferiority of black people.

Many, if not most creationists today have rejected that part of creationism.

Yeah ... well I go by what the bible says ... we are all humans ... God created humans and other things as well with variety encoded within His remarkable design .... after their own kind ... with variety within their own kind ... and that's what we see.

As for the technical delay...

Trump Refused to Take NABJ Stage Unless They Called Off Live Fact Check, Per NABJ President

NABJ President Ken Lemon told Axios that Trump’s team insisted that the interview proceed without real-time fact-checking, threatening that Trump would not participate otherwise. The Q&A, featuring prominent Black journalists, including ABC News’ Rachel Scott and Fox News’ Harris Faulkner, was stalled for over an hour.

At the time, Trump blamed technical and audio issues for the delay, but Lemon claimed that “they were resolved very quickly.”

“The bigger problem was his threat not to take the stage,” Lemon added.

Well, it's better than you were taught. He created all living things with the capacity to change over time, to fit their needs.

For example, Adam and Eve together could have had no more the four alleles for each gene locus. Yet there are dozens or hundreds of alleles for humans today. All the rest evolved over time.

As you probably know, most YE creationists now admit that new species and genera evolve over time. What do you think the taxonomic level of "kind" might be?

CHICAGO - Republican 2024 presidential nominee Donald Trump in a controversial and combative appearance at the National Association of Black Journalists Annual Convention took swipes on Wednesday at Vice President Kamala Harris's racial identity — a move that comes as excitement swells for the Democratic contender.

"I didn't know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black, and now she wants to be known as Black," the former president said of Harris, who is on track to face Trump as the Democratic presidential nominee. “Is she Indian or is she Black? Because she was Indian all the way and then all of a sudden she made a turn and she went she became a Black person.”

Trump questions Kamala Harris' racial identity at NABJ, says she 'happened to turn Black'

Or maybe he really didn't know. Which is possible, but it's an unnecessary error. Someone should have been watching him to stop that kind of thing.
Kamala has herself has identified as black, indian or mixture of both at different times .... so it is rather confusing. Trump did say ... he respected both ... but that gets "edited" out. She's not consistent I think was his point.

The pot calling the kettle . . .

I dare say most politicians will have a different emphasis for different audiences. When Harris made this comment on Trump's NABJ interview she was pointing to one aspect of Trumps's technique which is consistent:

The American people deserve better. The American people deserve a leader who tells the truth, a leader who does not respond with hostility and anger when confronted with the facts.
Trump did not seem to understand that his job was to persuade a hostile audience. Instead he further antagonised the journalists by his disrespect for Harris. It was political idiocy.

Why was the race issue brought up in the first place .... and by who? The interviewers.

It is true Kamala herself has identified as black, indian and or both at different times ... so it is rather confusing. Trump did say he respected both ... but that conveniently gets ignored or edited out.

I doubt she has ever identified as "black but not Indian" or "Indian but not black".

Saying "I'm black" doesn't deny being Indian, and vice versa.

so it is rather confusing.
It isn't.

Trump may have been completely unaware of her personal and academic history. He was just in free-association mode, making it up as he went. Eventually, he went so far off the rails that his handlers pulled him from the interview. Too late, it seems, judging by the polls.

Fortunately for him, he has an army of devoted interpreters grasping at straws to make his prophecies come true.
