Paris Olympics 2024: Food becoming an issue for athletes in Olympic village

Paris Olympic officials attempted to offer more plant-based foods in an effort to reduce the Games' carbon footprint. While there is a variety of cuisine available to accommodate the tastes of different countries — and an abundance of baguettes in France — vegan meals aren't in line with what the athletes prefer to eat while competing.

One British athlete told the Times that the food situation is chaotic compared to the well organized facilities in Tokyo.

The Village provides approximately 40,000 meals a day with 3,300 seats available in the facility's main restaurant. Some countries can't get meals anywhere else but the Village, while Great Britain's athletes are housed in a part of the village near the River Seine that has a separate restaurant and performance lounge.

The Olympics in France has become a vehicle for their progressive movement. Only a naive person would believe otherwise.

Themes seen:
1. Environmentalism - no A/C for the athletes.
2. LGBT or rather I should say TQIA+ display. Can't say I saw any LGB people - the Last Supper parody
3. Veganism and the normalization of plant base diet - the main topic here.
4. Anti-religious - banning display of religious symbolism (Brazilian surfer's Jesus the Redeemer surfboard)

And my personal favorite the official communication language when caught: "It was not my intention. I'm sorry that YOU are offended".

Agreed. Now, it is is okay to be environmental, and even Genesis encourages it, though the Olympics did it in a bad way. For myself, I am environmental, but run my A/C. But yes, 2 and 4 are anti-Christ. It is okay for folks to be vegan, but not get that crap shoved down their throat. If an athlete wants meat, let him/her eat meat. I like meat myself.

There is nothing wrong with being environmentally conscious. I'm very much pro keeping the earth habitable for future generation. In fact I'm for the restoration of the damages done by past environmental mismanagement. Like you there must be a methodology that doesn't overly burden the people and have long term benefit. France is not going to burn less LNG because the Olympic village doesn't have A/C. That's not how power generation works. It is a for show effort.

Being vegan should be a choice. Very much true. Given that this is an international event with athletes from myriad of backgrounds they should have planned the diet by necessity not ideology. Because of ideology the planning was skewed so badly that the athletes can't get their required sustenance. It's a sad state of affairs.

It is a very unprofessionally organized event.

Amen, we both agree on this, worst Olympics ever in the history of the Olympics. Plus, veganism is bad for athletics. France is just greenwashing right now. I hate greenwashing. This is End Times stuff

A quote from James Magnusson, an Australian swimmer

“I joked last night about the amount of vegan options in the Village, that they’re running out of meat,” Magnussen continued.
“Well, an Australian heavyweight boxer has come out. He wanted lamb chops, maximum two chops per person. The guy’s six foot six.
“He’s come here as a heavyweight, he’ll go home as a middleweight.”

This is a good quote. I go to Aldi, and there is plenty of meat at that store, same with Woodmans and Hy-Vee, so there is no excuse for Paris to run out of meat. Let the athletes decide their own diet, not some progressive vegan stuff. If an athlete wants to eat vegan, he/she can. If the athlete wants to eat beef for breakfast, lunch and dinner, he/she should be allowed to.

Newer reports state that the food situation has improved significantly in the past week or so.

During a visit to the buzzing complex this week by AFP, other athletes said they had initially struggled with the offering, with half of 50 dishes available each day being 100-percent vegetarian.

"We didn't have enough meat, but now it's solved," Romanian rower Iulian Chelaru said.

German swimmer Lucas Matzerath, 24, said that the size of helpings had left him hungry for more.

"At the start there were not very big portions for people, but it's improved now," he said.

Sodexo told AFP on Wednesday it had adjusted its offering, while the Paris 2024 organising committee said all of the menus had been approved by national Olympic delegations.

"Eggs and grilled meat dishes have been in high demand, so volumes have been increased significantly," a spokeswoman for Sodexo said. "For several days now the quantities offered are in line with demand."

This issue should have never happened in the first place, but hey, at least situations are improving. Woo, yeah. :)
