  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Harris has a major role to play in the Southern Border fiasco

The vice president is expected to focus on both curbing the current flow of migrants and coordinating with countries in the region to address the root causes of migration.
WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden announced Wednesday that he has appointed Vice President Kamala Harris to lead efforts to stem migration across the U.S.-Mexico border, as the administration faces growing political pressure to address a surge in undocumented migrant children unaccompanied by parents.
Biden said during an immigration meeting at the White House that he had asked Harris to lead the administration's efforts with Mexico and the Northern Triangle — El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, countries that will "need help stemming the movement of so many folks, stemming the migration to our southern border."
A senior administration official said Harris' role would focus on "two tracks": both curbing the current flow of migrants and implementing a long-term strategy that addresses the root causes of migration. Cabinet members, including the secretary of state, are expected to work closely with Harris on these issues.

Biden tasks Harris with tackling migrant influx on US-Mexico border

US President Joe Biden has put Vice-President Kamala Harris in charge of controlling migration at the southern border following a big influx of new arrivals.
Mr Biden said he was giving her a "tough job" but that she was "the most qualified person to do it".
The numbers of people arriving have grown since Mr Biden took office.
She has been a failure and take note - this is one effective truth that the legacy media is going to try to make excuses for.

Shhhh! We can't talk about that anymore!

The Free Press published an excellent article about this very topic yesterday.

At this stage of things, perhaps it’s not surprising that reporters aren’t scrutinizing Harris’s record with the same zeal with which they dove into “Russiagate,” but this marks a new low. We told you she was this thing that we’re now telling you she never was. What’s the word for that again? Right. Gaslighting.
Missing from this entirely manufactured “confusion” is the critical fact that the United States’ southern border has been a mess for most of Joe Biden’s presidency. For most of the time that the vice president has (or has not) been the “border czar.”
No one is talking about the nearly 250,000 illegal migrants arrested at the border in December 2023—an all-time high. Or the millions who have entered the country since Biden took office. Or the violence. Or the drug cartels. (I reported on the border from Matamoros, Mexico, in April.)
We can be sure of this much: If the border was not a mess, if this was not a winning GOP issue, Kamala Harris would be running on it right now. And her media sock-puppet friends—who seem to believe in nothing except making sure she wins—would be celebrating “The Greatest Border Czar Who Ever Was.”

But she wasn’t a czar. So she’s in the clear.

I can’t believe the VP couldn’t solve this problem that Congress and every administration have ignored for nearly 40 years.
I think the issue is that it got markedly worse.

If they had done nothing. There would be about 10,000,000 less illegal aliens in our nation

As things tend to do when they aren’t addressed for several decades.
It was addressed during the Trump administration resulting in a dramatic drop in illegal crossings. That is fact and reality. When Joe reversed most of Trump's border initiatives crossings skyrocketed.

Actually, that's not accurate. During the Trump administration data shows there was a decrease in people migrating during the pandemic, but at the same time there was an increase in illegal crossings because of title 42. There is a distinction to be made between people migrating and people crossing illegally. There is good information about understanding the data in post #3.

Not permanently through legislation. That’s the problem. That’s why anything Trump did was easily undone by the next president. We need a permanent solution to the problem.

Trump put a bandaid on the problem. When Biden urged Congress to finally act on the matter, Trump told GOP senators to not give him any wins and here we are.

That's pretty funny. The article in the OP is from March 2021.

This is from the more recent article 2024: Harris-Czar:
“She had a very narrow mandate, which was to be the diplomatic representative in Central America at the time when most unauthorized immigration was coming from Central America,” said Andrew Selee, president of the Migration Policy Institute, a nonpartisan think tank based in Washington.

Since 2021, immigration from the Central American countries of Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras, once the leaders in illegal immigration across the southwest border, has fallen from 86,089 in March 2021 to 25,015 in June 2024, according to Customs and Border Protection data.

Harris the Czar <--- informative article.

It has some good points. However, it's wrong here:

When Harris became Biden’s “border czar,” as critics called her,
Despite this article's attempt to pretend like only "critics" called Harris the "border czar", literally all of media trumpeted her as the border czar. See the article in post #2 for the receipts.

You have to wonder why in 2021 they were all aflutter with their new "border czar" and now since things didn't go so great at the border they're trying to distance her from that term.

I cannot simplify the sentence any further - you left a key word out that. -Another way of saying it - 10,000,000 illegal aliens would not even be here if they just done nothing with the systems already in place.

side note: be careful - the grammar police with cite you for misreading a sentence.

I really am having a hard time understanding how border arrests being at an all time high is a sign of failure. Deportations are up as well. I just don't get it.
How many of those "10,000,000" people are asylum claimants?
