  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Stupid California!

Looks like there's contradictory information out there. I wonder if the LA Times is one of those sources that said Joe Biden is sharp as a tack and any footage of him exhibiting cognitive issues was doctored.
Looks like they are claiming the original source for the data is incorrect and go into am explanation of why. What did you think of their refutation?

I can't get past the LA Times paywall.

Because that's what it means to them. We all agree that benefits come at a cost to somebody. Nobody thinks that benefits come out of thin air at no cost to anybody--despite the fact that you like to pretend that we do.
I disagree. I think a lot of folks think loan forgiveness, for example, is out of thin air.

I’m unable to argue that “free money” comes from somewhere?

Okay.

No you can't and these one sentence replies aren't fooling us. Accept the point was made and move on.

Okay.
No. You are unable to argue that your characterization of how money impacts a person is the same whether one person pays for it, or 10,000,000 people pay for it. To continue to make the argument that "free money comes from somewhere" is assinine; as though the other possibly is alchemy is actually being argued.

Besides, you think third party insurance is free? IT's the EXACT SAME THING? There is no worthwhile argument to be made.

How terrible would it be to labour under the mindset that you would refuse to pay 10 cents for a child to have a brain tumour removed.

You don’t seem to understand the argument.

Not the same thing. How you come to that conclusion is beyond me.

An argument from emotion? And an insult? Mkay.

Why not just say that you don't want to help pay for it?
Because I don’t see the relevance. But since you brought it up, why not just have the people who want to pay for others’ debt pay for it? Everyone wins. Probably.

Do you honestly love money more than helping the poor? What christian speaks like this?

So you personally get to decide how your tax dollar is spent. Actually, you get to keep it all if you don't want to spend it on anything. Want to chip in to build a road? Got a couple of bucks towards a new school? A new hospital? The town needs a new fire station, can you help?

Nah, you only want to pay for a road that you might use. Unfortunately, not everyone will use the road, so most don't chip in and it doesn't get built. Neither does the hospital, because most people won't use it. Neither the school, because only people with kids likely to go there will chip in.

Maybe you should think this concept through for a while.

There are universal goods that taxes go towards. Schools loans aren’t in the mix.

It's education. That's a universal good. It really sounds like you don't want to pay for it. It really sounds like you want to restrict it to those who can afford it. Maybe like, I dunno, health care.

The poor? We are talking about school loans.

The government writes off all sorts of debts. You're making a big deal about students getting a break when others get significantly more. Are you beating the drums about corporations and the rich or are you only bothered by the little guy getting assistance?

Enlighten me. If student loan debt is forgiven but nothing is done to address the ridiculous, crippling high costs of tuition, is the intent to forgive student loan debt perpetually, or is it just this current group of students that gets a break?

You don’t seem to understand the argument.
You think I don't but I do. I think it's a really dumb argument. Unless you put in the effort to explain it otherwise.
