  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Minimum wage hikes in California have led to price increases and greater forays into automation. This has been mentioned several times in business news. Here's a recent piece covering the sector.

Ideally, humans should not be doing any job so mindless that robot could do it.

(I will revisit this once robots have minds).

They do have minds now. Given time robots will probably be able to perform brain surgery. Provided they don't kill us first.

Bold claim. I dont think every intellectual task requires a mind per se. I guess it depends on how you define mind. My sense is some proper consciousness is required. I do think we'll get there. Then things get interesting.

Why do Americans always get their knickers in a knot when someone suggests an increase to the US minimum wage?
How can you look down on the poors if they start to be not the poors?

That really is the crux of it. Once you start comparing the subsidies, forgiven loans, and other government handouts that are considered acceptable vs those that aren't, it becomes apparent that they're largely divided along lines of whether the recipients are the right kind of people, worthy of being promoted by society.

Southern California fast food jobs hit record high despite minimum wage hike

They cant even obey the laws of capitalism!!!

Fast food industry sees 2.2% increase in employment.

And look. The best thing is that workers are getting more money. Despite all the kvetching and all the rightwingers predicting doom because workers get a piece of rhr big mambo.

The American Right: More pointless friction against helping American worker since well, as long as necessary.
Perhaps the workers are seasonal? Or could it be more part-time workers and less full-time? Also perhaps the owners are not passing on the extra costs of labor yet?

There’s no such thing as a forgiven loan. That loan is paid for by someone.

Yes. Someone has to pay for it.
Thats what "forgiven loan" means. The lender forgives the debt and chalks up the loss. The borrower is relieved from obligation to pay back. Thats what it means and it exists. Denying it is silly.

Oh?

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

You may have seen that on a pillow or some needlepoint somewhere.

In other words, basic accounting methods used in all businesses.

Forgiveness is not free....somebody has to pay!
