  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Democrats greeted President Biden’s departure from the presidential race with an avalanche of cash, donating more than $50 million online on Sunday and making it the single biggest day for online Democratic contributions since the 2020 election — with hours to go.
The huge amount is based on a New York Times analysis of the online ticker of contributions maintained by ActBlue, the leading site processing Democratic donations.
With Mr. Biden gone and Vice President Kamala Harris building momentum to claim the nomination, Democrats went online to contribute at a startling pace. Donations spiked from an average of less than $200,000 per hour in the hours before Mr. Biden quit to nearly $11.5 million in a single hour later on Sunday, the analysis shows.
As of 10 p.m., Sunday was ActBlue’s third biggest day for online donations in its history.

Small-dollar donors are rapidly rallying around Harris. Just one example: David Hogg, a gun control activist and survivor of the 2018 mass shooting in Parkland, Fla., gave his social media followers a challenge to raise funds quickly for the new presidential candidate. Hogg said his outreach on X had led to more than $200,000 in donations in just a matter of hours.

For reference, $50M is roughly enough money to buy a new Airbus A318 jet plane. :) Axios, another news agency (without a paywall) says the same thing, that the Democrats have raised 50 million dollars.

A318 plane

Quote from Axios: "ActBlue announced grassroots supporters had raised as of 9pm ET $46.7 million via the Democratic donation-processing site following her campaign launch, which it noted on X was 'the biggest fundraising day of the 2024 cycle.'"

I will be very curious to see how much tracking and how truthful the reporting of the facts by the media shall be concerning the actual number of people donating to the Democratic Party and Kamala Harris as well as how many elite wealthy donors are contributing to Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party campaigns.

That's $5 million more than the Republican party is getting per month from a single donor.
That's gonna be a lot of money wasted when Kamala loses.

Well, with any side, regardless of politics, the elites give tons of money. Personally, it would make a lot more sense if both parties had a limit of $10M in donations, so the playing field could be level. Cos, what if the Democrats get $100M in donations, and the Republicans get $20M in donations, or vice versa? Having both capped at $10M would make more sense, but I am not a politician, so I can not state any more.

Quote from Stanford: "Big-money donors, both Democrat and Republican, not only have more political influence than the average voter, they also have more extreme beliefs."

She’ll lose and the money isn’t well spent.

Only time will tell.

Imagine when Trump wins again….I fear for our safety because of all the riots and hatred against him. God help us all.

I think getting many voters to donate some money will mean more in the ballot box than one donor giving a huge sum.

The big donors for the Dems had been holding back. I don't know how much they are giving PACs. Act Blue is not a PAC. It is a non-profit fund-raising platform for grass root organizations and individual small donors.

No but the hyperbole of “someone” starting a civil war seems inflammatory.
I wish it were.

Schalit: When you heard the news, what was the first thing you thought?
Perliger: The first thing that I thought about is that we were basically one inch from a potential civil war. I think that if, indeed, Donald Trump would have suffered fatal injuries today, the level of violence that we witnessed so far will be nothing in comparison to what would have happened in the next couple of months. I think that would have unleashed a new level of anger, frustration, resentment, hostility that we haven’t seen for many, many years in the U.S.

Evangelical preacher Andrew Wommack said that a "civil war" would be "worth it" if it meant getting former President Donald Trump back into the White House.
"I've actually had people say that if Trump was to be elected if we got a conservative Congress, that they fear that we would have another civil war," Wommack said during a Wednesday episode of his Truth & Liberty show. "And you know what? I don't want a civil war, I don't know anybody that does, but would it be worth it? To turn this nation back? I believe it would."
The growing political divide in the United States has sparked speculations that a war could break out at any moment over the escalating feuds between Republicans and Democrats. Trump supporters have repeatedly suggested that if he doesn't win the 2024 election, there will be a civil war. Trump is currently the frontrunner in the Republican primary race.

Wommack walked back his comments, but I posted this as I am not the only one who has heard or read the threat of civil war if Trump does not win.

Ask a MAGA Republican what will happen if former President Donald Trump is convicted in any of his four criminal trials and the answer is almost always the same: civil war.
That answer holds true whether you speak to rank-and-file Republican voters, local elected officials or even former national GOP leaders. It’s also an indication that the right-wing politics of grievance is spiraling dangerously out of control.
In Georgia, state Sen. Colton Moore warned politico-turned-podcaster Steve Bannon that any prosecution of Trump would lead to a likely civil war. “I don’t want to have to draw my rifle,” Moore said. Concerningly, Moore also seemed to imply that Georgia state troopers would be willing participants in any effort to bust Trump out of jail. That last bit may be fantastical thinking on Moore’s part, but he’s hardly alone.
Former Georgia Republican gubernatorial candidate Kandiss Taylor also lent her voice to the chorus of war cries, describing Trump’s indictments as “treason” and “a hijacking of our country,” telling podcaster William Wallis, “This is war, and I hope and pray it gets resolves before we use guns…we’re at war right now, a war for our freedom.”
I have read stuff on this site implying civil war if Trump does not win. I truly wish it is hyperbole on my part.

It can go both ways.
