  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Billionaire Elon Musk will shift business operations for his companies X and SpaceX out of California, calling a new state law prohibiting school districts from requiring teachers to tell parents their children identify as members of the opposite sex "the final straw."

In a Tuesday post on X, his social media platform, Musk said that "because of this law and the many others that preceded it, attacking both families and companies, SpaceX will now move its HQ from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas."

Musk reposted another post expressing concern about California's Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom's approval of Assembly Bill 1955 Tuesday. The post shared by Musk asked the rhetorical question, "So the state is the parent now?"

Good. While I do not like Musk that much, this is a good move by Musk.

I agree. Who says an evil man like Musk can't make a good move.

Yeah, even evil people have a sliver of goodness in them. In other words, we should not judge people as harshly as a society.

Well - Elon did not make his billions by not being savvy.

Texas has a number of economic advantages over California when it comes to being HQ for a business.
  • California has a corporate income tax of 8.84%. Texas doesn’t have a business tax, but does have a tax on gross receipts. That can be a bear to calculate but it comes out to much less than CA's tax.
  • Texas also does not have a personal income tax.
  • Texas' regulations are less burdensome and tend to favor employer over employee.

Call me a cynical, but I'm thinking economics probably played a part in his decision as well.

I've known that Musk was just another billionaire for years, but it's taken the rest of the American Left alot longer to figure that out. It wasn't until he put his hands into the culture war that they took notice that he's not the tech messiah that he seems to be. Maybe they will eventually realise he's not only not a tech messiah, he's more like a confidence man.

Well.. he's known to do illicit drugs, visit sex clubs, throw temper tantrums at his employees and others, etc. and no indication he has stopped doing these things.
But he has also espoused some views that some conservatives and Christians agree with despite his behavior in other areas.

A man of contradictions to be sure.

Not contradictions. Incredibly immature in all sorts of ways, including his reactionary politics.

You are not wrong about his immaturity. I was just trying to somewhat kind.

You mentioned the left turning away from him in an earlier post. Now some on the right are embracing him because of statements like the one this thread is about.

Due to his behavior, I admit I think some of his statements may be just smoke and mirrors telling a segment of the population what they want hear.
