CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was talking about the divisive and incendiary rhetoric of a prominent GOP politician, not some remote corner of the internet..
If you're talking about Saturday, that was a registered republican.

Yeah this kid cares about politics enough to register as a republican in a state where democrats do that in order to mess with rwpublican elections. And he doea that with a Democrat mother and a non-republican father and then doesn't say or post a thing afterwards relating to anything political at all. Not for anything or against anything. He joins no groups and has zero social media activity.
But what we do know is that he IS a republican through and through, believes in the republican party and it's platform. And as a republican decides he has to.take out the republican candidate.
Yup he's a true republican all right. His entire life and writings, postings, voting record opinions say so.

I didn't say a single untrue word and I'll say it again. There were people on your side who kept claiming Trump is dangerous. A Democratic congressman said Trump can't be allowed to win and is dangerous and he has to be eliminated.
Never said you did. But it's pure hypocrisy to attack Trump for his so called dangerous rhetoric and not do the same thing regarding people on your side. No you didn't say a peep against it. In fact I bet you defended it.
Yes we should wait, and you should take your own advice.

His classmates all said that he was a political conservative in highschool. Not just somewhat conservative, but reflexively so about everything.
Crooks' father was registered Libertarian, which in US politics often is just another way of saying conservative and suspicious of government. And just because his mom was registered Democrat doesn't mean much. In the Midwest in particular at one time there were alot of people that register as Democrats because of social class or ethnicity.
It's important to not politicize an event like this. Most presidential assassins in recent years have been motivated by mental illness and insanity, not politics.

Yes, we have closed primaries in PA.
This notion that other party members register as a Republican to “mess with republican elections” is just nonsense though...unless you want to back it up with verifiable data, that is.

I still stand by it. Just watching believing Christians discuss among themselves we can see that many jump the gun on attributing prophetic design to various events. Other Christians agree with me here.
Its not a Christian thing per se. Its just human nature to project meaning onto events when the lack of meaning makes us uneasy.

The need for meaning is in the mind of the beholder. Some people need more than others to feel at ease, and so they pile on unnecessary complications and designs.

Of course it's important. Until we know exactly why a person tries to assassinate a presidential candidate it's perfectly reasonable to ascribe political reasoning of rhe shooter. And it's perfectly reasonable to suspect the vitrioloc rhetoric against Trump played a part. Was it the cause? Probably not solely. And I certainly don't believe Biden meant a literal bullseye. He wad using pitical speech. Just like Trump and umpteen other politicians used the word fight ad political speech and didn't mean it literally. When the Democrat congressman said Trump needed to be eliminated I don't think he meant literally. But we all have to recognize that when it gets that bad as calling someone Hitler and a threat to all people that it might help some weak minded person decide to take action.
Rhe responsibility of the shooting is on the shooter alone. But it should give us pause and make us consider how our rhetoric effects others.
