Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) spoke at 2024’s National Conservatism conference — better known as NatCon — and made a bold declaration in support of Christian Nationalism.

Speaking from the podium during NatCon 4’s gala dinner on Monday, Hawley stated: “Some will say I am calling America a Christian nation, and so I am. Some will say I am advocating Christian nationalism, and so I am.”

From NatCon:

Where a Christian majority exists, public life should be rooted in Christianity and its moral vision, which should be honored by the state and other institutions both public and private. ... Adult individuals should be protected from religious or ideological coercion in their private lives and in their homes. [But obviously not necessarily in their dealings with the aforementioned state and other institutions.]

Ah, so his plan is to care for all of the poor in our country, and all of those in need of medical care, and all of the strangers who come to us, the same way we would care for our Lord Jesus himself. Finally, implement the Christian moral vision. Got it!

Suppose though, that his Christianity is very different from yours.
A perfect point. :) Christianity has 30,000 denominations or flavors, if I am not mistaken. If Josh has a flavor of Christianity that is different from yours or mine, it would be bad if he shut down any churches of a particular denomination, as we are all one in Christ.

Also, Christian nationalism might not be the best idea, as if we ever get a Muslim president in the future, then he might want to shove Sharia law onto our society, hence why church and state must be separated to a degree. Sharia law is scary stuff, and is common in countries such as Iran and Iraq. But yes, we can have Christian ideals, without forcing religion onto people.

Christian Nationalism, in most circles isn’t wanting to shut down churches, or forcing religion onto anyone. Don’t buy into the scare tactics.

So what could Christian Nationalism actually look like?

Directly tying an offense and its punishment to any one religion’s ideology would likely violate the First Amendment. For example, a law that specifies an act is illegal because of one religion’s teachings and requires punishment directly tied to that same religion’s doctrine would likely be unconstitutional.

Barring anyone who is not Christian from holding public office

Church-run public charter schools

Barring the religious monument of any one religion while allowing others.

Requiring prayer in schools is different than allowing it.

I will just tread carefully around any form of nationalism, but I do see your point. There are different styles of Christian Nationalism. However, someone is bound to turn this into a dictatorship in a matter of decades (as we live in a fallen world), just as many Muslim countries have taken away freedoms. @Akita Suggagaki is speaking the truth here.

“Jesus said, My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.” John 18:36

Those who identify as Christian in this country who continue to push for a "Chrsitian America" are directly contradicting the messages of Jesus Christ. Like the Jews of Jesus time, they are fighting to establish an earthly Kingdom and the power of man.

What they really want is power in this world.

lol. No.

Saying His kingdom is not of this world means that His kingdom runs differently than the world systems. I know this because He also said this

And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Alas, it looks like Hawley wants there to be no room at the inn. And baby Jesus should be taken away.

Hawley supported the Trump administration's family separation policy, saying "It is an entirely preventable tragedy. Don't cross the border illegally and this won't happen."

Separating people from children long enough to determine parentage is not a tragedy, it's making sure children aren't being trafficked for sex slavery or other social ills... Not everyone coming across with a child is actually related to them.

The federal government loosing the children - now that's a tragedy...

That's specifically a Biden problem, but I heard they may have finally been located, I've not confirmed that yet though. (The Biden Administration actually lost nearly 200,000 children)..

A clear and unambiguous manifesto of Christians fascism. Ugly, unAmerican and nothing at all to do with the Gospel of Christ.Thank you. It ought to be posted as a sticky for all to see.

"And if that doesn't work for you, then you can just pass secular laws to make sure they do sex like they're supposed to."

LOL?
Do you take Jesus seriously or think his words are funny?

His Kingdom is not of this world. Obviously it exist under a different values system than the kingdoms of man.
He also instructs us to make disciples in all the nations of the world.

So tell me, how is Christian discipleship advanced while supporting a "Christian Nation"?
