Well, canards on airplanes are meant to keep stable flight for fighter jets, so hopefully doctor Cannard can keep Joe in stable mental health.

I'm guessing they're probably screening him for everything (much like they did for Mitch McConnell when he was having those out-of-sorts freeze ups)

A couple of things to note:

Just because the doctor specializes in a certain ailment doesn't mean that's the only thing they treat from a practitioner standpoint within their specialty. Especially when it comes to a "VIP patient". (for instance, if there's someone who a top cardiologist who happens to specialize in blood clots or heart valve replacements, I'm sure the president of the US would be able to get an appointment to see them for their angina if they so choose...just a hunch).

I use that example in particular because when Dick Cheney was getting treated for his heart issues, he was being seen by a cardiac doctor was renown in other forms of cardiac surgery/care, but he was a top doctor in the field and Cheney was the VP.


The other thing, while they're probably checking for Parkinson's just to be thorough, the typical onset age of Parkinson's is 58-65. The percentage of Parkinson's diagnoses that happen in patients developing it over 80 only make up 2% of the diagnoses that take place.


So while it's technically possible, it's not statistically probable for Biden developing parkinson's at his age.

The more likely answer is probably the obvious one, he's experiencing the general cognitive and mental decline that faces over 40% of people once they get north of age 75.

How many visits does it generally take to be thorough for a condition that is not statistically probable?

If you notice the first part of my post, if someone's a top-notch neurologist (but happens to specialize in Parkinson's) that doesn't mean that's the only thing they're well-suited to treat in the neurological realm. Neurologists treat a wide array of conditions (one of which being Alzheimer's and/or things like Dementia and Aphasia) -- which I think are more likely to have an onset at his age than Parkinson's.

The point of my post was, a President (or other high-ranking person) has the luxury of seeing the top orthopedist in the country for a sprained ankle if they choose to do so even though such an ailment would be "beneath their pay grade" so to speak.

Biden's definitely got something going on, but I don't know if signs point to Parkinson's (all things considered)

Michael J Fox has advanced Parkinson's, he can still form sentences (did a few episodes of Curb your Enthusiasm) and was able to play guitar with Coldplay at a recent concert from his wheelchair. Biden reminds me more of how my grandpa was 18 months prior to getting diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

One minute she would seem perfectly normal. The next minute, she would be holding a knife, asking who I was, and why I was in her house. She was in the late stages of Alzheimer's, and she passed soon thereafter.
