  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I personally would be ashamed if I voted for the candidate who made the speech.

Some people tell me they believe a vote for him is the only moral one. I could list about 100 reasons why it isn't.
Problem is that you only consider a vote for Neocons or the liberal establishment as legitimate and moral. That doesn't speak highly to your perspective.

One doesn't have to worship the establishment like you do.

Trump truly believes all Christians are chumps. A voting block to be soft-soaped into guaranteeing his election.

Paying homage to Jesus as being more popular than himself, hawking a Bible with an American flag on it, or any other pretense can't obscure what he revealed in this short vid - in which he essentially spits on the atoning sacrifice of Christ, and calls God a liar.

I don't know if I can hold my nose and vote for his admitted superior dedication (in comparison to Biden) to protecting religious freedom and placing conservative appointments. I am really torn. Is voting for the lesser of two evils truly representing my devotion to my Lord? I'm seriously considering violating my civic duty for the first time in years and not voting at all. It just galls me to contemplate one getting away with conning God's children.

I dunno... just praying for wisdom about it all.

When Virginia elected governor Youngkin a couple years ago I stayed home. I was caught up in the tribalism and wanted to reset myself. It was so liberating. I was freed from the stress and worry about things which I have very little control. It really helped me out of the rut of polarization in which I'd struggled since Donald Trump was elected. I'm not affiliated with either party, yet Mr Trump and his enablers seemed to force me into defending democrats simply because they acknowledged reality. I felt like there were no worthy republican candidates for whom I could comfortably vote. So I just chilled out for a bit to take the edge off. I'm glad I did.

Sitting out one election will not make you a bad person or anything like that. In fact, it may help you evolve into an even better person. I sat out one state election and we have a republican governor. And thankfully I'm well from my bout with tribalism again haha. Youngkin is our governor and that is just fine with me. That's one marvelous benefit to living in Virginia. We realize we are all on one same team, though we have two political parties. We can grow and progress with a democrat or republican as governor. We aren't nearly as tribal as most states seem to be now. We can enjoy the color purple for all the different people in our commonwealth. We are not satisfied being restricted to either blue or red.

I'm not real comfortable about either presidential choice right now. I cannot promise you I will vote this November either. Yet now I don't feel guilty about sitting out occasionally. I can't tell you how invigorating it made me feel to abstain from voting in that one election. I grounded myself again and now I feel liberated. I don't need to worry about politics if I choose not to worry. The choice is easier now because I'm grounded to reality again, not steeped in the foggy haze of political tribalism. Politics is definitely an obstacle for my faith. I can't prioritize politics and don't want to. Politics is the good, the bad and the ugly without the good!

I wouldn't ordinarily recommend a responsible adult American to refrain from his or her obligation to vote. But it sure was a catalyst for me to see things from a totally different perspective. I still have those reservations in voting for either of our present choices just as you seem to have. It may be right for a person to sit out elections once in a while. I don't want Trump again, yet do I really want to vote for Biden? No. I'll be fine regardless. God has granted me the peace of mind to realize that now. Your post just inspired me to share a bit. I can really relate to your concerns. Peace

Former President Donald Trump told a national gathering of Christian conservative activists Saturday not to let the secular left "silence" and "shame" them in a bid to keep them from voting, saying Christianity would be in "tatters" if President Joe Biden is reelected.

On Saturday, Trump addressed the Faith & Freedom Coalition's Road to Majority conference in Washington, D.C., encouraging attendees to do all they can to encourage fellow Christians to vote in the upcoming November election, bemoaning that not all Christians vote.

"We need Christians to turn out in the largest numbers ever to tell Crooked Joe Biden … 'Joe, you're fired,'" said Trump, the 2024 presumptive Republican nominee for president.

I want to sit out 2024 as well, and if Biden says one more far-left thing in 2024, I'm gonna sit 2024 out. The local elections are more important anyways. I am purple as well when it comes to my politics, but with a light brown exterior.

Virginia sounds like a good state, except for the temperatures and humidity there.

I hate to tell you, but all of them run on fear. That's been the case ever since I can remember. I remember seeing the "Daisy" commercial, but it was probably at a date later than that election.

Darn tootin'.

Is that the LBJ ad that showed the little girl picking the flower with a nuke going off in the background? Or was that another candidate? Memory fades, but fear-mongering lingers on...

I feel what you're saying, too, Brihaha. When Biden was elected, I threw up my hands and quit obsessing over politics for a good long while. It wasn't lost on me when checking in on my favorite news channel every few months that it was the same regurgitated talking points over and over and over ad nauseum - even from 'my' side of the aisle. I can't bear to watch ANY of the news channels any more.

Besides, the break revealed something to me. I found I enjoyed not being agitated all the time. It's stressful to sit on the edge of your seat daily nitpicking over every gaffe and misstep of the opponent. I keep anticipating that the news mongers will celebrate over the first bit of drool to roll down the cheek of which candidate first. Call it Drool Cam.

I keep asking myself, how would I feel about multitudes scrutinizing ME for every conceivable flaw around the clock? Would I hold up under it? Absolutely not! Yet we've created a whole industry around the practice. Bread and Circuses for the masses. Entertained by someone else's misery.

This post was the first political post I've made in years, because I just couldn't hold my tongue anymore. This'll do me just fine for the next couple of years, until the next wolf-in-sheep's clothing emerges. I'm deriving too much pleasure in devoting my efforts to pointing folks toward the Source of Eternal Life than wringing my hands over the affairs of this temporal life. I do follow one Biblical directive, though - I pray for those in authority, no matter my opinion on their character. In that, I find peace with myself.

You are welcome, brother. I just typed in LBJ Daisy commercial on the machine known as YouTube. :) It was the second result, under a cruddy 1980s VHS ripped version off of a 1960s film strip most likely.

Hopefully Russia, N. Korea or China does not start a new Cold War in 2024.

Yes. It is a pesky little thing that gets in the way of "progress," and keeps democrats from getting stuff done.

I think that's been pretty much constant for a long time. As a rule of thumb, about 30% of both parties are loyal to their party and everyone else is sort of "eh." If one party dominates an area, you have a phenomenon of people voting in a party during primaries so they can have a say in local elections, then vote another way in November.

Interestingly, Mr Trump doesn't say "us" when referring to Christians. He says "your religion will be in tatters". This will be overlooked I'm sure.

This you can't read too much into. That's just real. I was Muslim before coming to Christ and I'm absolutely and definitely saved.

However, because I was never part of the Christian culture, depending on what context I'm talking about I have before said "you" when speaking of Christians.

Why? Because there's parts of Christian culture I haven't touched or don't really feel a part of.

So, that's not a concern for whether he's saved or not. We all know that if he is saved it was much later in life.

Though I will say, whether or not he's saved has no bearing on the office of Presidency either. We don't hold it against Biden.

Have you ever considered America is now a tale of two very different realities, and there's an ever-growing class of people who aren't being served by current policy?
