  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Former President Donald Trump told a national gathering of Christian conservative activists Saturday not to let the secular left "silence" and "shame" them in a bid to keep them from voting, saying Christianity would be in "tatters" if President Joe Biden is reelected.

On Saturday, Trump addressed the Faith & Freedom Coalition's Road to Majority conference in Washington, D.C., encouraging attendees to do all they can to encourage fellow Christians to vote in the upcoming November election, bemoaning that not all Christians vote.

"We need Christians to turn out in the largest numbers ever to tell Crooked Joe Biden … 'Joe, you're fired,'" said Trump, the 2024 presumptive Republican nominee for president.

I looked up the speech on YouTube, just to check. It's here,
, at about 14:40. (I didn't listen to the rest of the speech, so I don't know what he says later on.)

I agree with @Michie : My faith does not depend on who's elected to the presidency or to any other office.

He's talking about people's religious freedom, not about anyone's personal faith.

I skimmed it until I found the quote I was looking for. :)

Thank you for taking time to do this.
Interestingly, Mr Trump doesn't say "us" when referring to Christians. He says "your religion will be in tatters". This will be overlooked I'm sure.

We Christians don't worry about people shaming us either. For we would shame ourselves plenty if we endorsed and voted for this fraud. I can't help but laugh at Donald's projection too. Referring to our current president as crooked Joe is some high level irony and projection coming from a guy recently convicted of 34 felonies involving his own election fraud during the 2016 election lol. That Americans are still willing to place this man at control of our executive branch of government should give any Christian pause to rethink their priorities. We are to keep our treasures in heaven, not political office.

Thanks, Hazelponi. Yep, that's what Trump was talking about. I just actually listened to what he said.

Headlines are used in such destructive, deceptive ways these days.
Almost always one has to go back to the source, to hear for oneself what was actually said.
But the 'startling' headlines sure do get our attention ...

He was addressing Christian conservative activists. So he was speaking about Christianity. From the article:

Former President Donald Trump told a national gathering of Christian conservative activists Saturday not to let the secular left "silence" and "shame" them in a bid to keep them from voting, saying Christianity would be in "tatters" if President Joe Biden is reelected.

Yep, we will bear criticism for our faith in Christ. Sometimes we earn criticism when we fall short and our witness is less than good.

Yes, I watched the video starting near 14:30. I heard Mr Trump speaking.

He's not wrong but he isn't exactly going to put a genuinely Christian emphasis on his government. At least with Donald Trump he likely won't try to antagonize Christians like Biden would. This is still a far cry from what is needed.

I know whoever is in office certainly does not affect my faith.
Your faith as in your belief, no it doesn't. The exercise of that faith, well, that's another issue. That can range from some local governments during the pandemic forbidding church services where attendees isolate in cars and listen to the service on a low power FM transmitter to federal requirements on various religious institutions that run counter to their beliefs.

He runs on fear. I cannot vote for either major candidate. Even the unheard of, unvetted folks in the American Solidarity Party have got to be better.

Trump truly believes all Christians are chumps. A voting block to be soft-soaped into guaranteeing his election.

Paying homage to Jesus as being more popular than himself, hawking a Bible with an American flag on it, or any other pretense can't obscure what he revealed in this short vid - in which he essentially spits on the atoning sacrifice of Christ, and calls God a liar.

I don't know if I can hold my nose and vote for his admitted superior dedication (in comparison to Biden) to protecting religious freedom and placing conservative appointments. I am really torn. Is voting for the lesser of two evils truly representing my devotion to my Lord? I'm seriously considering violating my civic duty for the first time in years and not voting at all. It just galls me to contemplate one getting away with conning God's children.

I dunno... just praying for wisdom about it all.

I hate to tell you, but all of them run on fear. That's been the case ever since I can remember. I remember seeing the "Daisy" commercial, but it was probably at a date later than that election.

I personally would be ashamed if I voted for the candidate who made the speech.

Some people tell me they believe a vote for him is the only moral one. I could list about 100 reasons why it isn't.

Ooh, a centrist party. I am tempted to vote for a 3rd party. :) But yeah, both candidates are not good. One of them is a criminal, and the other is a little flaky.
