  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Blessed feast everyone!
I am not Orthodox, but God bless this feast. Made an Orthodox friend today on the feast of Holy Pentecost in front of the library on my way to return some Star Trek DS9 DVDs and off to mass, and brought him to church for his first time in 10 years. While the church that I go to is Catholic, he liked the service, as Orthodox and Catholics stick most true to old-school Christianity. :) He is a cool guy, about the same age as myself.

This is off topic to what I meant this thread to be, but a Catholic taking an lapsed Orthodox Christian to a Catholic service is not something that would make other Orthodox people happy to hear about.

I know you mean well and are sincere, but I just have to say that. As you probably know of the Great Schism of 1054 between them both. And I for one am one of those Orthodox who don't see the Catholic church as equal to Orthodox but as fallen away in schism and heresy. Though, I really do hope and pray for the Catholic church to come to enlightenment of that and return in repentance to Orthodoxy.

I don't want to get into a debate or anything, but I felt I just needed to state my beliefs. I'm fine with other faiths being here on TAW forum and interacting with us but sometimes there just needs to be a reminder that we are an Eastern Orthodox forum and certain things that would make someone of another faith happy would not translate well for an Orthodox such as I explained above.

On a side note, the Catholic and Orthodox don't share the same feasts because we are not in communion with each other anymore even if said feast falls on the same day.

Ooh, sorry about that. I have heard of the Schism of 1054, which also coincidentally happened in the same year as a supernova. Thanks for stating your beliefs. For myself, I like all churches, just as long as they are not woke as some of the protestants have become in the 2020s. I love my Orthodox brothers, and wish that there were more Orthodox churches in my city, instead of the Methodist and ELCA ones. We both use the Nicene creed, which some Protestant churches have sadly thrown out. The nearest Greek Orthodox church is across the entire town from Ibrahim and myself, though, it would be nice to go to, as Orthodox services are beautiful.

Ibrahim and I are on good terms, and he is a great guy and we believe the same things. In fact, both of us prefer scripture over Pope(s) or leaders.

You are welcome. Christians are meant to show respect, so that is what I try to do. By the way, @sjastro probably took a photo of the supernova remnant (nebula), as he has done so for countless other nebula. I can ask him to upload it here for us.

This nebula is from SN1054. :)

Different views though. :)
At least we both believe that Christ lives in the Eucharist, that is all that matters (as well as the all important Gospel), fellow Christian brother. We both agree on the Gospel and the Eucharist, and we are both not woke either.

The real presence, just that we do not define how it changes such as transubstantiation.

True, though at least Jesus is still present in the bread. What are your thoughts on Eucharistic miracles? It happens more for Catholics, but happens in Eucharists in general.

Let's have you start a thread so we don't take this off topic haha. :)

Haha, well, someone back in 2008 did, but it shut down. I might start a thread, however, I prefer scriptures and devotionals over miracles.

Happy Feast day, brother.
