Except they didn't prove the universe had a beginning, they showed that it has expanded from a very hot dense state. Whether that was the beginning or there was something before that is still unknown, but the scientific bet is increasingly on there being something prior (assuming a temporal description is applicable).

If there was something before the Big Bang, it had to be immaterial, outside of space and outside of time. It also had to set the conditions exactly right for the matter, galaxies, stars and planets to form and for life to exist.

I also marvel that the photons traveled such time and distance that they can be seen contrasted with the darkness in such clarity.

And I would argue with many that our earth will spin around the sun for a space of about seven thousand years. But our galaxy and universe is much older than that.

There may be an infinite number of ways that the underlying laws can be to give rise to complexity and life, and an infinite number of ways they can't. Intelligent beings will inevitably find themselves in a universe that can support intelligent life (i.e. the anthropic principle); no surprises there.

Well, at the time in the 1920s, most scientists back then thought the universe was in a steady state (as in, it has existed for infinitely many years). Lemaitre was the first scientist, along with Hubble to prove that the universe had a beginning.

Lemaitre wasn't even the first to discover what he is most famous for, which is why his name doesn't go first:

The concept of a "beginning" of the universe is a Christian ideal.

Many religions have posited a "beginning" in the origin stories.

Anyways, it is getting late here, but it is good that science (when done properly), can prove faith.

It is not the purpose of science to prop-up any faith system, nor does "doing it properly" result in any result for or against a faith. It just isn't relevant.

But yes, most religions do have an origin story for the universe, I have to give you that. Seems that the 1920s was a turning point for astronomy. That is true, however, many scientists still think that the universe had a starting state, and there was nothing before it. About half of scientists believe in a higher power or God.

There are scientists who believe in a cyclical universe, where the universe expands and contracts, infinitely, but I do not believe in a cyclical universe myself: What would this cyclic model of the universe mean for the Big Bang?

You are confusing cause and effect by implying that the conditions were set for life etc. Scientifically speaking, life etc. is a result, not the cause, of any initial conditions.
