CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It "could" have been, but realize God's ways are far above our ways. Jesus "could" have instructed the Apostles to compile and hand out Bibles to all nations. Now this is educated guessing, but since most of the Apostles wrote nothing down for us and much of the NT is directed to specific audiences and the NT books do not themselves say the books will be part of the Bible, it appears that at least a number of authors did not know the Bible would be so important in the future and that their writings would be included. As it was, the process of the Catholic Church choosing the books of the Bible spanned centuries. In choosing the texts for the Bible those texts first had to fully comply with the teachings of Jesus as passed down through the Apostles and popes. Then the Catholic Church had to decide what was actually God-breathed. For example, there are some beautiful Catholic prayers, such as "For thine is the kingdom . . . " which Catholics often said after the "Our Father." But the Church decided that that prayer and many others were not God-breathed. So the Bible is the book of the Catholic Church, not the other way around. At no time did the Church turn over authority to this compilation by many God-inspired authors.

Jesus had teachings never heard before. Texts that ended up in the OT and NT, and a lot more that did not, were "available" but the Catholic Church did not finish the final selection of those books, the canon, until the late 300s.

There isn't anything the Protestants protest against regarding the Roman Catholic Church prior to the late 300s though. The RCC didn't start doing things that went against scripture, which finally lead to the reformation, until after scripture was compiled and canonized.

That's based on a misinterpretation of John 21:25, which I suppose means in RCC tradition that the Pope can come up with whatever and claim it's an unheard teaching of Jesus. I'm not sure whether or not there are any specific RCC teachings/traditions that are supposed to be unheard teachings of Jesus.

Actually, Jesus never even hinted at major Catholic dogmas such as the Perpetual Virginity of His mother, the absence of biological siblings of His, the prophesied assumption of His mother into heaven followed by her coronation as Queen of Heaven, etc., etc., etc.

Yes, and no. There have been multitudes of folks who have been completely fixated on God who, for various reasons, have had no interest in anyone other than God, especially those nasty sinners in the world.

We're supposed to be like Jesus, which would mean having the same kind of focus on God that Jesus had, which results in us being like Jesus.

That is why I said yes. However, not everyone sees it that way. Certainly, folks like the Crusaders believed that they had God's focus, which is executing righteous judgement.
