  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

We need to come up with solutions fast to the growing crime problem in America.

What can Americans do to help solve the rapid growing crime problem? It only gets worse, and public safety has been compromised.

Summary caning. A police officer catches someone shoplifting and calls a supervisor down to cane them. Supervisor agrees that the person is guilty and gives them a few whacks on the rear end with a stick. Personally I would prefer that to going to jail but that's just me. And if I was publicly whacked on the backside with a stick I likely wouldn't repeat the offense.

And yes. I'm serious.

There is nothing we can do, sadly. With the two party system, solutions grind to a halt. So, instead, we should not worry about this, and if possible, choose to live in areas with lower crime rate. Also, crimes are going down. Maybe we should look at European countries (color coded world graphic for crime index), and how some of them have lower crime rates compared to us.

Why is she in a car by herself? That's really unsafe. Not that it's her fault but it was probably a motivation. She had no one there to come to her aid.

As for the OP, I don't know. On a personal level it's important to be aware of your surroundings and mindful of things happening in your area. Get off the phone and take out the earbuds! Distraction makes you an easy target. Mace and related helps are a personal choice. I think they're wise if you're traveling during a period where there's less foot traffic.

I thought there has always been a crime problem in America. Poor people commit crimes to survive no matter what country they live in and the easy availability of firearms (whether bought on the open or black market) ensures we we also be world leaders in violent crime as well.

Agreed, crime is decreasing. Plus OP should give a spoiler warning about the video such as this: (Not for those ≤ 18, and contains violence)

That is what happens when the police are defunded.

What did you think would happen when they started doing that?

Did you think crime would stop?

None of this is surprising at all.

Spending on police is going up though, not down. That's the opposite of defunding.

Let's start with the people who put forth fake electors and tried to steal the election.

Have you folks been living in a cave for the last several years?

Defunding the police has been disastrous...

By the way, @JohnB445 posted a random video from 2020.

Moreover, he has provided no data to back up his claims of "the rapid growing crime problem" (whatever that means).

FYI: If you wish to solve a problem, the least you should do is state as accurately as possible what the problem is in the first place.
  • What are these alleged 'crimes' that are supposedly 'rapidly growing'?
  • What cities are they happening in?
  • Are the crimes the result of recent policy changes (i.e., theft under one thousand dollars not a felony)?
  • Have these cities reduced police funding recently?
  • Are these crimes committed by people recently let out of jail?
  • Are the jails and prisons releasing criminals too early or with no time served?
  • Is this political?
  • Is someone funding these criminals?
  • Is this the result of too much immigration?
  • Is this the result of decriminalizing drugs?
My suggestion would be to start with the above.

Sure, why not?

If a person is convicted of murder where it is a clear conviction, execute them within three days of their conviction.
This is unconstitutional on its face.

What's an unclear conviction look like?

You ever read the Ox-Bow Incident?
Yeah, we should give D Taylor the Cliff's Notes of the Ox-bow Incident, where innocent men were falsely accused of murder, and executed.

And yes, this is quite literally the Cliff's Notes, not a generic summary: Part 1
