Honestly that is what this opinion piece advocates. No retirement. Not no mandatory retirement, which I'm OK with. No retirement at all.

But put all of that aside, just on a fiscal level and on a logical level, when Franklin Delano Roosevelt established 65 as the retirement age, the average life expectancy in the United States was 63 years old. Today, the average life expectancy in the United States is close to 80. It's totally insane that you believe that you should be able to work from the time that you are essentially 20 to the time that you are 65 -- which is a 45 year period -- pay in, and then you'll receive Social Security benefits sufficient to support you and your family, you and your wife or whatever, for, like, another 20 years. That's crazy talk. That is not fiscally sustainable. The notion that if you have to raise the retirement age to 67 or 68, that everyone is gonna fall apart -- my parents are that age. My parents are not retired, and they shouldn't retire. It would be very bad for them to retire.

The servers making 7.25 plus tips OBVIOUSLY can afford to sock away a useful amount of cash.

Right now, 78% of Americans are living paycheque to paycheque. What does that mean? Best case scenario is that they MAYBE could sock away 50$ (and that would be if they sacrifice the very few enjoyments they have in life) for when they are almost ready to die and VERY very likely won't enjoy. The mere creation of a "retirement account" does not then say you will be able to sock away enough cash.

The idea of "saving money for retirement" is ALMOST a uniquely "boomer" capacity. Almost nobody has the financial means to do so.

I'm very sorry you think that. There are MANY MANY individuals who do not have the skills to do other work and are trapped doing that job.

Regardless, who CARES if it's not life long? Because it's not a lifelong job, you think people doing that job deserve to live in destitution while thye are performing that job?

Apparently the only type of serving you understand is a server at a Denny's or some other restaurant. Servers working at resorts make good money from the tip pools.

It is true that some are able to have a good career working as servers.
I believe that many servers earn more than I do even though I am earning a good wage at a manufacturing company.

Or maybe, hold up and consider this, there is a tremendously wide desparity on the income of servers based on the restaurant they work at, the boss they have, the area where the restaurant is, and the area where they live.

Ben Shapiro a few days ago has turned into a meme saying "I don't understand why people retire anyways"?

My personal opinion is that you are INCREDIBLY entitled in ways you wouldn't expect if you felt that "nobody" should retire. I don't mean that to sound as acerbic as it is, but it's true. There are dozens and a dozens of jobs done by human people that are so hard on the body, the idea of doing them for their entire life, should be an affront to anyone.

It also also been my VERY limited experience seen that anyone who argues that people shouldn't retire, invariably have fairly easy jobs.
