Thanks to Putin's reckless aggression, NATO troops are now on Russia's borders in a broad area of northern Europe. His foolish gamble convinced Sweden and Finland to join NATO, and convinced NATO nations to build up their military forces. Not much hope for that to ever reverse.

And Putin's war crimes now make it unsafe for him to travel to most nations as he is now a wanted man. Even if he finally overwhelms Ukraine, he's insured that Ukraine will never be part of Russia. It would at most remain a resentful and dangerous population that would turn on their oppressors at any moment of weakness.
