  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Fox News reported the KIPP Academy girls team has a male player with facial hair on its roster who identifies as female, and local Massachusetts outlet the Daily Item, which also reported the team has a male player, said “KIPP officials refused to confirm the player’s gender identification.”

Our country should never have let a small group of radicals rule as they see fit. More and more girls are going to get hurt, and the fact is that it is completely unfair to women's sports.

FTA: Kyle Pelczar, Collegiate’s athletics director, told the Daily Item the KIPP player didn’t have anything to do with the decision to forfeit; the two teams previously played each other on Dec. 12, a 36-29 KIPP win.

The kid that threw that girl down and injured her was a lot stronger and she was hurt because of it. These people have no right to impose their twisted thinking on others.

Boys do not belong in girl's sports. I do not care what they "identify" as. Period.

Ah yes. Another instance that happens in girl on girl sports but the second it can be used to support a narrative it becomes "an issue".
Any chance at all that people are resorting to highlighting stories like this because the completely reasonable concerns (pertaining to the non-injury realm...and more rooted in the realm of overall fairness) were being quickly dismissed in the name of "individual feelings over every other consideration"?

Numerous examples have been discussed pertaining unfairness that exists in non-contact sports (where nobody's getting injured), and they're almost always dismissed with a snarky "oh, so you get to hurt someone's feelings because someone may lose in sportsball" type of responses.

This is a real part of the conversation that needs to be had.

I don't have anything against a trans person wanting to use the bathroom of their choice, I'll even use a person's preferred pronouns (within reason -- I won't indulge people in new ones that were made up in 2017), but to pretend that there's no other considerations besides "feelings" is a misguided (albeit, well intentioned) position.

Throwing opposing players down is not a legal move in basketball and never has been. It is very normal for one player on a basketball team to be significantly stronger than at least one player on the opposite team. The center or power forward is typically a decidedly larger player than the point guard.

Girls don't have that kind of strength.
Tell that to my wife. She can buck hay better then I can. Point is that women get hurt in women only sports. How is that different simply because of a gender difference?

Possibly. Frankly given how this stuff gets posted it strikes me as much more of the "You don't believe the sane as I do so you are bad" cultural bunk we have seen from both sides.

The thing that gets me is people who try to make the point that men tend to be genetically stronger. All sports are based on genetics. You don't see many 150 pound Asians playing as a linebacker. No one bats an eye about that but change the gender and suddenly it is unfair?

She wasn’t thrown down to the ground. They were going for a jump ball and she did a lousy job of it. It was clear she wasn’t trying very hard, but then fell and wrenched her back. Any half-way decent cisgirl would’ve pulled it away from her like that too.

Boys do not belong in girl's sports. I do not care what they "identify" as. Period.
Lots of small schools have co-ed sports. How’s that jive with your position?

Yeah a male clobbering a female is a nonissue. After all, there's no such thing as male and female in the first place. That's just an outdated social concept.

It's because the gap between the sexes is greater and more pronounced than the type of genetic advantages you're referring to.

The 150 lbs person in your hypothetical likely wouldn't be able to make the football team for that position when trying out.

What's happening here would be more equivalent to if a bunch of 150lb people all tried out for (and made) the wrestling team to wrestle in the 150lbs weight division, and then out of the blue, were told "but we're going to let this one 195lbs person compete against you guys".

While all sports have a genetic component to them, there's a reason why they separated some sports by sex in the first place.

On average they don't have the same upper body strength. I would bet your wife has better technique. In this case the boy wrestled that ball away and the girl went flying.

Three women were injured in one 15 minute segment, based on other sources. This flies in the face of Title IX, enacted to protect women.

It seems twice as many were injured in situations that didn't involve a trans girl.

The article only claims that one of the injuries involved the trans girl. As we can wee from the video, that play wasn't more intense or physical than what would be reasonably expected in a high school basketball game of either gender. It looked pretty tame, tbh.

This article says the team was already down 4 people before the game started:

This one says that at the time of the forfeiture, KIPP was ahead by more than double:

The school's sports schedule says they beat KIPP in December:
