A Texas man was putting Cyrux (an abortion inducing drug) into his wife's drink to induce an abortion which (as far as I can tell, she did NOT want to have done).

Man accused of putting abortion-inducing drug in wife's water takes deal, to serve 180 days in jail
180 days he gets. Mom wanted the baby. She was WILLING to keep and raise the baby. She was willing to ALLOW HER BODY TO BE USED TO GROW THIS BABY; despite the tumultuousness of her situation. Her and her circumstance are like the POSTER CHILD for the pro-life movement.

But, she ALSO doesn't get what she wants when her husband does this.

A DOCTOR who would be performing an abortion AT the patient's REQUEST....can receive a life time in prison.

Please convince me these rules are not really just rules in place to control women. It's not even a matter of consistency; this ruling just appears to make it blatant. And I'm sure the judge in this case ruled as harshly as he saw fit. Isn't it nice that they were willing to negotiate a plea deal with this.....man.

Poisoning your wife several times no less, should get more than 6 months. Happily the wife and her daughter survived but the daughter was harmed.

Why do YOU think he should?
Because if abortion is murder then he attempted it. But he gets a relative slap on the wrist instead. Why? Because conservatives don't care so much about choosing abortion as long as it's not the woman making the choice.

He wasn’t poisoning her, according to your OP.
And I'm SURE you're saying that because you forgot this particular woman had a mouth.

Wow!! In this scenario the mother just does NOT matter at all to you hey?

It's...it's almost like it proves my point

It would probably depend on the relevant statutes to see if it was literally "poisoning", but it was certainly introducing a harmful controlled substance into someone's body unawares.

In the linked OP in the thread in News:

An OB-GYN allegedly told investigators that Misoprostol could be used to terminate a pregnancy, but can also cause heart, liver, and renal necrosis, saying that “giving someone the drug in an unknown amount is an assault.”

Right, this scenario would have played out quite a bit different had it been the woman voluntarily taking the drug to induce termination.

Does he think abortion is murder?

If the issue was that he was poisoning her, then the abortion factor isn’t an issue in the story, and I don’t know why you’d focus on it.

I'm going to stay out of this because giving an answer might require..............................applying Philosophy. And if there's anything on CF that both Christians and Atheists don't seem to want, it's philosophy.

Good Luck!!

Not really... I guess we can debate how this court should have charged the crime, but the crime was charged as:

"In 2022, charges in this case were filed as felony assault to induce abortion, and it was the first in Texas. But as part of the plea deal, charges were downgraded to injury to a child and assault of a pregnant person"

Why they allowed a plea deal is anyone's guess, but it should be said this man will also serve 10 years probation, so if he doesn't fulfill the terms of his probation at any point they can revoke it and he can go to jail for up to 10 years...

His 180 days is showing him why he doesn't want that.

So, why the plea deal? That's the question... It may have been simply so the affected wife went through less at a trial. There's many reasons to deal...

But something pretty big is behind this deal... The child surviving might have something to do with it too.

In poisoning her she would lose the baby. Not sure why this is difficult to understand.

The medication would cause HER muscles and to contract and her endometrium to flush away

So the issue isn’t abortion, but poisoning. I still think the punishment is too light, but at least it’s clear that you don’t think this is an abortion issue.
