Tinnitus (LOUD noise in ears 24/7)

Greetings everyone, please pray for my son, Jonathan, as his tinnitus is getting much worse (it has reached an unbearable level/volume, 24/7). He can't sleep or do the work that he needs to do. Loud music used to help, but the ringing (like a machine grinding apparently) is becoming so loud that he can't hear the music any longer over the grinding sound in his ears, at any volume.

He's also turned to singing loudly (along with the loud music) to combat it, but that doesn't seem to be doing much good either

We are looking for a specialist, but we already know that not only does tinnitus not have a cure, but that there aren't many answers about how to deal with it either.

In my experience the only earthly way to deal with it is what's called habitation. There are lots of articles about tinnitus habitation.

The only time I notice my tinnitus theses days is when I read about it like now. It brings to my attention that my ears are ringing pretty loudly right now. But I'll get distracted by something soon and go back to not noticing it.

I pray the habitation technique will help. I know tinnitus by way of Lyme Disease can be really severe.

I agree with your post concerning distraction. It works for me also. Tuning it out. But mine is not extreme.

I've been getting s lot of ads in my email concerning a cure but i don't read them. I fell for that trap on another ad. They get paid for how long they can keep you at their site. The ad showed a water bottle being held close to the ear.. Also a eye dropper with what looked like oil in it. When I was young they warmed olive oil and put it in our ears when we had ear aches i wonder if it would help if someone started a thread on tinnitus with symptoms, thoughts, cures from individuals. Something might click..

My tinnitus started in summer 2018. I experienced the same as your son, couldn't sleep, and then when I did, I woke up after 20 minutes. Mental issues, anxiety. Mine was due to brain tumour.

The only reason I can live with it now is God's grace. I was also not a believer, but God used my health problems to save me. May He be merciful to your son, comfort his heart, and heal him. May the Lord bring your son to Jesus, and your son repent of his sins.

If mine was that bad i would try weird things. That bottle they showed next to the ear hole looked like it was empty and they were going to squeeze it to rush air into the ear canal with a burst. Crazy, huh?

I heard that helps, depends on the idividual.

Mine is always the loudest when I'm tired. Good sleep reduces my tinnitus.

Not me. I was convinced anything I did to try combatting it would just make me aware of it and acknowledge it as a problem. Tinnitus is purely neurological as far as I know, making ear treatments ineffective.

Mine is always the loudest when I'm tired. Good sleep reduces my tinnitus.

I had to skip sleep today and my ears are going off like tea kettles. Neck strain exacerbates it too. But the only reason why I became aware of how loud my ears are ringing right now is because of this thread lol.

I've always thought it was blood pressure or the inner ear like the coclea.
Does temperature affect the noise level?

Finally, here's a list that states what the common causes of tinnitus are (in case anyone is interested). Lyme Disease is not listed, but it really should be.

Causes​

The common cause is due to the damage in the inner ear. The other causes include:​

Damaged blood vessels in the brain near or around the ear​

Age related hearing loss​

High blood pressure​

Overactive thyroid​

Tumors in head and neck​

Tumours in head and neck​

Clogged arteries around middle or inner ear​

The risk factors include:​

Prolonged exposure to loud sounds​

Age - common after 60 years of age​

Sex- Men are more prone to tinnitus​

Smoking​

It is very temporary and doesn't bother me when it happens. What I'm pointing out is a person can retrain their brain to not be bothered by it. And I pray that works. I'm praying firstly that it just goes away for your son. But if not that I pray the habituation technique works. While it doesn't distress me any longer, I know how extremely distressing it can be.

Don't appologise, it makes no difference to me reading about tinnitus. The only thing than affects me, is how tired I am. It is as loud as a screaming child sometimes, and without God, I wouls have lost the plot already.

Prayers for your son.

I occasionally have bouts of it from years of shooting and other loud noises without hearing protection. Nowhere near as bad as it sounds for him. I can't imagine how irritating and painful that must be. I've never really figured out how to stop it or why it starts randomly. I hope he's doing alright.

My ears were normal until I began reading this as well. Odd thing isn't it. But, I like you, do not get to stressed over it. It usually goes away. I know it doesn't really, but I don't notice it most of the time. Prayers for those with extreme cases. It must be very difficult.

Oh great, thanks for making my ears ring! Actually I'm noticing there's barely any ringing right now. It's close to the 20th anniversary of when it started happening back in April 2004.
