The late Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks said, “Who is a hero? Not one who defeats his enemies, but one who turns an enemy into a friend.”
Prime Minister Netanyahu has all but erased any chance of peace by saying that the israel government would not support the creation of a Palestinian nation. The Palestinians have long been used by both sides of the issues as political canon fodder. With the notable exception of Syria most of the Middle East nations have normalized their relations with Israel. When an Israeli won gold in an event in the UAE Hatikva, the Israeli national anthem, was played. I believe that this was a first in an Arab nation.
The destruction of Hamas is all but impossible. They don’t wear uniforms. So how do you figure out who is Hamas and who is not? Israel must open a dialogue with the Palestinian leadership. This will not happen while the bombs are dropping. Given sufficient motivation, like their own nation, the Palestinians will rid themselves of Hamas. Hamas won 44.45% of the vote in 2006. Instead of bombing the Palestinians into the Hamas camp israel must start a peace process. Moshe Dayan said, “Peace with the Palestinians is not just a political necessity, but a moral one as well.”
Although they cannot be drafted there are Israeli Palestinian volunteers in the IDF fighting for their country.
By the way, the modern nation of Israel is not a chosen national. The Children of Israel are a chosen people.
