Watching all of this unfold, along with everything else that's going on in the world today, makes me understand on a new level what drove the Desert Fathers into the desert to begin with.....
I've been saying I want my own island with my children and loved ones and maybe some folks can visit.

Yes. I belonged to an ELCA church many years ago that I loved(laised LCMS.) had to leave after the '91 statement on abortion(pro-choice) and have watched with sadness the increasing falling away(IMO) from the gospel.

I do not think it will be long ... before we see the 'alphabet agenda' accepted in most churches, of all denoms and non.
Those standing firm on Gospel truth will be in the minority ...

Sadly.

This 'same sex' stuff has taken off like wildfire, least in America. I don't think there's any stopping it now.
And we who do not accept it will be the minority.

This world is not our home.
I find comfort in remembering that ...

I live in small town rural U.S and we have teens and young adults here who identify with their non birth gender.
For me to say it's a fad has become "Hate speech." I work with one and I greatly like this person, and I'm quiet about it.
But as someone in my 60's I never dreamed it would come to this. I never thought historic Protestant Churches would cave on same sex and abortion but here we are.

Same- I have fantasized about that myself but we are called to be in the world not of it, I suppose.

One other possibility: the pope is right and you are wrong.
And still one other possibility: the pope is right and wrong in intentional crafted Jesuitical duplicity, and I am waiting upon God's response in trust.

Yes, I'm 69. We saw the sexual revolution of the 1960's. But I never saw this coming ...

The Bible talks about a time when there is a great 'falling away'. Perilious times.
I do believe we are living in those times.

I feel very sad, for the young people that have fallen for this deception of the evil one.
It does not help at all, when the churches openly begin accepting it.

Sounds like you are in a good position to be kind to your co-worker, and mostly to pray for her/him.
At our ages, I think mostly we are able to pray about these things ... and that's a very good thing!

Well I think the document contemplates the exercise of prudence. The sinful acts themselves cannot be blessed, nor should a blessing occur when it may give the impression that the sinful acts are being legitimized. That is how I understood it.
Prudence? Do you recall the response to Vatican II - how the sometimes one way, sometimes the other in the text of some VII documents enabled the explosion of "experimentation" in every facet of the Church's life - following the "Spirit of the Council" celebrated and led by the "progressives" who managed to get their way, if not perfectly in the documents, still well enough to get their way in the so-called "spirit." Much of the Church has still not recovered from that mess. Francis seems to have learned that tactic well. "Make a mess" he counseled, it worked before. And so he has. People have short memories.

People have used the Bible to justify sinful behavior. There are things in the Bible that are difficult to understand and which people twist to their own destruction. I suppose you think that the Bible should not have been written?

As for Vatican 2, are you one of these "Catholics" who think that the the documents are in error or otherwise detrimental to the Church?

Since “irregular” unions can be blessed now, how about a group of people in a state of polyamory? Can 2 men and 2 women come in and get their group union blessed?

I don't see anything in the document that authorizes the blessing of irregular unions. The document indicates that people who are in an irregular union can receive a blessing.

Is the difference difficult to understand?

If John has a habitual sin of watching adult movies it's not as if the priest blesses masturbation when he gives John a blessing. . .

I was thinking about a couple where, as I understand it, one person is paralyzed and are unable to consummate the marriage. It’s my understanding that either they can’t marry in a Catholic Church or can be denied marriage. They should be able to receive a blessing.

Honest question, what about Catholic people that were divorced and remarried? This is another form of irregular union, does the statement have any bearing on their status?

The document appears to apply equally to both groups.

Your "I suppose you think....", and "are you one of these 'Catholics'..." don't bode well for a conversation. I'll leave you to your own conclusions.

I think we all knew Martin would take this and run with it.
James Martin is nothing if not hyper-meticulously careful. He knows where the lines are and he will not go a nanometer over any line. He will intimate and hint and suggest but never actually go over the line. That's been my past experience of him. So if he now says he will bless what he would not bless before, I think something must have changed in where the lines are.

That's really sinister and snake like behavior. He has to know that he'll have to give an account for this. But he clearly doesn't care, so one can only rub two brain cells together to come to the conclusion that he works for someone else.

He is a Jesuit in good standing. Other than that I couldn't say who he works for. He has friends though. Including one pope.

I'm sorry, but I really do not find this whole "blessing" situation to be very surprising.
Do we not know there are many homosexuals within the priesthood and in other positions of authority within the RC ...
whether practicing the sin or not?

And so, doesn't it really stand to reason that many of those would now be in favor of 'blessing' such unions?

It has surprised me that homosexuality has become such a popular lifestyle choice ...
but it does not surprise me that homosexuals and those sympathetic towards them would now want to "bless" their unions.

How does that old saying go: "Birds of a feather flock together".
