It’s not that I don’t disagree that the apostles could at times make mistakes. Surely we see examples of this in the Bible, for sure. The problem is that the show sends a message of a lack of repentance. The Chosen Jesus did not tell them to repent, and or neither did these sinning followers of Jesus seek forgiveness with the Lord over what they did. Therein lies one of the many problems in the show.
They knew not at that point what to repent of. One must first come to understand that we are raised by the blind to think backwards to the Kingdom. Once they went from 'self' to ways contrary to man, they knew of what He spoke.

Your definition of what to repent of, please.
BTW you don't train Apostles by saying NO! Bad Apostle. Like the rest of us we learn we are backwards then God leads us in our efforts to change. It is hard to overcome decades of what one assumes is natural behaviour.

Solomon and Samson are examples of God’s grace. But the key difference here is that we are now under the New Covenant and God commands all men everywhere to repent (Acts 17:30). Jesus said, repent or perish (Luke 13:3). I am also aware that God can forgive us a lot. Jesus said we are to forgiven 70 x 7 and this is a parallel of how God forgives (Matthew 18:21-22). Meaning, God will forgive us a lot. His mercy is abundant, but we also cannot justify sin without any repentance (seeking forgiveness with the LORD). We need to confess and forsake sin in order to have mercy according to Proverbs 28:13. The two disciples were drunks and no rebuke of such a sin and or no teaching that one desires forgiveness over such sins means that God is okay with his people sinning. Nothing could be further from the truth. Then again, I suppose that is why the show is popular. It fits this Laodicean age we are living in today.

There is a lot that happened that is not written during the time of the Apostles etc. They were only human. They probably did over indulge with wine.

What Jesus said or did if He witnessed those times is unknown.

I am sure that, as He is all loving and merciful, He would have been extremely kind and forth coming with sound advice etc to His followers.

Obviously, with weddings going on for days even Jesus had to step in when the tap went dry.

Also, here is another example of the show affecting people wrongfully.
People in this thread and others defend a teaching from the book of Mormon.

3 Nephi 12–16
“I Am the Law,…”
(Book of Mormon)

”I am the Law of Moses”
(The Chosen series)

Really not much difference in these statements above here.
It is also not a coincidence seeing the executive producer is a Mormon, and they filmed in sacred Mormon land, etcetera.

This would have been less likely of folks trying to defend this Mormon teaching without the influence of this Chosen show. In other words, if they did not know about this show, and a Mormon wanted to convince these same people in this thread of this teaching in the Book of Mormon, there is a chance that they would be more likely to reject it. But seeing it is from one of their favorite TV shows that dazzles their senses and emotions,….. “All reason goes out the window.”
I used to watch Fringe, and Alias, and many other shows. But I gave them up for my Lord Jesus because of the sinful things and ideas that they pushed within them. This is why you will never understand if you continue down your current line of thinking. You have thrown in the morality towel and given into the world’s entertainment for your own enjoyment and maybe on the hope you may get some moral lesson if your lucky. Again, as mentioned before In this thread, I will bring up 1 John 2:15-17.

1 John 2:15-17

15 ”Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.”

To put it to you another way, what if the laws in this country got so bad that they condoned the abuse of children and they allowed some of these people to work on the 50th season of the Chosen and to openly promote child abuse on the show without any rebuke of such a sin? Would you just shrug your shoulders and say the following words? “Oh well, that’s the world we live in, and I am still going to watch it because I may get something good out of it and I am entertained by it.” I sure hope not. But see if you would be upset over that sin, then why do you give a pass for the sin of Mormonism? Surely you must understand God is upset at the false religion of Mormonism. So if God is upset by Mormonism because it leads people away from the real Jesus, then why associate your enjoyment with something that leads people away from Christ? It makes no sense. But you can eat out of the dumpster to find that prized piece of half eaten chicken leg if you like.

Yep, I'm going to just keep watching The Chosen ... and what's more, I'm going to do it with utter abandon and impunity. :dontcare:

No. That’s false and incorrect. Stop justifying a sinful TV show that is not entirely based on Scripture. There is no biblical example you can show us in Scripture where a disciple or follower of Christ was in sin without either:

(a) Jesus rebuking them (or):
(b) Without that disciple seeking forgiveness with the Lord.

Make sure you have the Book of Mormon open to look for more future references. I am sure it is only a matter of time before we will see another one. Also, keep in mind the actor who plays Jesus has a huge Catholic following and he leads them into RCC practices because of his celebrity status because of the series. So as you act as if this Jesus is the real one, the actual actor is leading others into the practice of Catholicism when off screen. But hey, if one is Catholic, or ecumenical, I guess it does not matter.

This is what a Mormon said:

I was introduced to Dallas Jenkins through his now famous short film “The Shepherd”. It was a dry, hot August afternoon in 2017 when I received an email from VidAngel’s head of public relations, Matthew Faraci.

The email subject read only: “short film”. The body of the email was void of text, just a Vimeo link. Nineteen minutes later I was blinking away tears as I watched the credits roll on my old MacBook.

Over the next few hours, a flood of crazy ideas poured into my mind. Novel ideas that no film production had used before, ever. Without even having met Dallas, God had already inspired the basic path to raise the money we needed to turn this short film into a high budget TV series.

The next day I told my co-founder and brother, Neal, about The Shepherd. He dismissed it immediately, “shows about Jesus Christ are for churches to produce, not VidAngel.”

“Just watch it.” I responded.

Nineteen minutes later he pulled off his headphones and said, “this is why we made VidAngel.”

Three years later we have received hundreds of messages and letters from people upset that “Mormons” are part of this world-changing project. Likewise, we receive lots of skepticism from Latter-day Saints deeply concerned that we have given full creative control to Evangelicals, who they think hate us.

To both Latter-day Saints and Evangelicals I reply: if Jesus can call his ancient apostles from a range of backgrounds, including an apostate tax collector on the one hand and stubborn, illiterate fishermen on the other, why can’t he call Evangelicals, Catholics, Jews, and even Latter-day Saints to the creation of a TV series about His life and ministry?

And if you’re still skeptical, I say the same thing I told my brother three years ago: “Just watch it”.
I will probably see a thousand more messages from people telling me I am a “cultist” and that I believe in a “different Jesus”. I will certainly have many more Latter-day Saints refuse to trust the show because the message is controlled by Evangelicals. But one thing can be certain, they can’t diminish MY relationship with Jesus. He has redeemed me. And it won’t take away MY love for Him or THE CHOSEN. Hate or love, I am offering the gifts God has given me to help THE CHOSEN reach a billion people worldwide.

THE CHOSEN’s central image is a school of fish. Interestingly, Rabbi Sobel also once compared the series to a net, one that could gather all kinds of people (Matthew 13:25). In addition, John 10:16 states, “And other sheep I have which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and there shall be one fold and one shepherd.” God is going to “gather all kinds of fish.”

Finally, a unique thought from a Latter-day Saint perspective: I believe THE CHOSEN may well be, in small part, the fulfillment of a little recognized Book of Mormon prophecy. Let me explain.

Eighteen years ago, as a missionary ministering in Cork, Ireland, I was studying the Book of Mormon when 1 Nephi 14:14 jumped off the page with intensity.

Mr. Jenkins claims God “pressed it on his heart,” and the hearts of others, that this would be one of the high callings of their lives and that he must take responsibility to tell the story of God’s people with extreme care and dedication (2:20 timestamp of Video 1). He repeats this claim in a recent interview with Melissa Dougherty. Starting at the timestamp 13:40 through to about 15 minutes in the interview with Ms. Dougherty, Mr. Jenkins claims that he felt God speaking to him 3-4 times in his life. He claimed he felt God “laying on his heart” that “in several years The Chosen was going to be what people thought of when they pictured the disciples.” He went on to say, “I felt like God was saying that ‘this will be the definitive portrayal of My people and this is what people are going to think of around the world when they think of My people. And I’m not going to let you screw it up.’”

Claims of having heard a special message directly from God aside (as we could spend a whole post talking about that claim alone), if The Chosen is not a replacement for Scripture, why would God purportedly say it will be what people think of when they picture the disciples or why would it be the definitive portrayal of God’s people? Do we need something more than the Bible to know what God wants us to know? By definition, The Chosen and the Bible cannot both be the definitive portrayal of God’s people. And if Mr. Jenkins is claiming that God told him The Chosen would be the definitive portrayal of God’s people, what does that say of Mr. Jenkin’s actual view of the Bible? What does it say about what he supposedly heard from God? His statements are contradictory at best and show a low view of God’s Word at worst.

Mr. Jenkins will sometimes emphasize that it’s just a show and definitely not adding to Scripture, yet he says God told him that The Chosen would be the definitive portrayal of His people and that God would make sure it was accurate. This would have to include the portrayal of Jesus. If God said “I won’t let you screw this up” then it follows that the portrayal of Christ also has some level of divine inspiration. It’s also not “just a show” because Mr. Jenkins is involved in writing study guides and devotionals that go along with his portrayal of Christ and His followers. Churches and small groups will be watching episodes of The Chosen and using the accompanying materials for the sake of spiritual growth. He argues that the Chosen doesn’t replace Scripture but He does claim that God is the one behind it, wanting to use the series to bring people closer to Christ.

You are missing the point. We have a portrayal of Jesus and His followers not seeking forgiveness of God over their sin of drunkenness. Jesus did not rebuke them, and neither do we see them seeking forgiveness of the LORD. This is what needed to happen if the show was an accurate portrayal of even the basic essence of principles of Scripture. But it doesn’t even get that right because it is not really entirely based on the principles of the Bible. The show is presenting another Jesus with false messages.

But I am not surprised you don’t see it because you do not understand this basic principle in the Bible. Again, try reading Proverbs 28:13, 1 John 1:9, and 1 John 1:7 sometime in prayer to the LORD.

Your definition of what to repent of, please.
To learn about my definition of repentance, check out this CF thread I created here:

My Biblical Case for Repentance

BTW you don't train Apostles by saying NO! Bad Apostle. Like the rest of us we learn we are backwards then God leads us in our efforts to change. It is hard to overcome decades of what one assumes is natural behaviour.
You are going off your own thoughts. Proverbs 14:12 says, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” In short, you have no biblical example anywhere in the New Testament of an apostle sinning without Jesus rebuking them and or without that apostle seeking forgiveness with the LORD.

Jesus said, “I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” (Luke 5:32) (KJB).

So if the disciples were sinning, He would have called them to repentance because that is what Luke 5:32 says.
So you have a choice to make. Continue to believe the Chosen or believe your Bible instead.

Hardly. We are all in the same boat as they were
But this is just mindless talk on your part. You are not presenting any Scripture to prove your case at all. This is because you cannot do so because there is no such Bible verse that aligns with your false thinking here. Se my recent post to you (Post #236). I post a verse that refutes this false thinking.

He called them, He didn't verbally beat them into submission.
Uh, to call somebody to repentance is to tell them to repent. There is no other way to interpret that. Of course I am sure you don’t like this verse and so you are attempting to disregard it.

Jesus actually rebukes His disciples in Scripture if they did things He felt were wrong.
Do you not recall the words of such things when you read the New Testament before?

I speak of that all the time in my posts.. but you go ahead and find fault in tv and i'll stick to pointing out how Gentile Christianity fell to the wayside.

The show is at fault for having Jesus not rebuke their sin of drunkenness because as I said Jesus called sinners to repentance as I just mentioned to you. To call sinners to repentance means to “tell them to repent.” Do you remember in Luke 13:3 where Jesus basically says, “repent or perish” to others? This is an example of the call to repentance. So again, the Chosen is unbiblical and will lead people to think they don’t have to repent when they are in sin. This is false and wrong and will lead many astray.
