I for one have always felt uncomfortable when the congregation starting clapping at Mass (either for the choir or some announcement). This quote I cam across sums it up.

They once asked Padre Pio what was the problem with clapping at Mass. He answered, “In Calvary there were those applauding Christ's death: soldiers and demons.”

Yeah I'm not a fan of it either, clapping is what we do when we enjoyed someone's performance on a stage. The Mass isn't a performance and it's not about anyone up in front of the Church except Christ.

Imo, clapping at Mass is very 'Protestant'.
It's something you'd see done in a Protestant service.

Clapping at Mass is merely a way of the congregation saying "Thank You." It's not done
during the Mass itself, but usually at the end. I've never seen it during the Mass itself.

Padre Pio was referring to clapping during the Mass in general.

Of course, Padre Pio was also ordered to say Mass by himself as he sometimes
took 3 hours to complete the Mass. People who attended Mass before heading
to work couldn't stay for more than an hour. Padre Pio had his own issues.

If it is done prior to the final blessing, it is during Mass.

Announcements can be made before the final blessing. Announcements can include clapping.

If this upsets you, find another parish where people are less human. :D

It doesn't upset me, I just don't participate. I just wanted to give a traditional perspective on the current happenings. It seems you don't want others to feel differently than you do. How biased and intolerant.

Evidently, you were not speaking truthfully?

Mass is during the body of the Mass, not the dismissal.

I have never seen clapping during the Penitential Rite, the Liturgy Readings, the Consecration nor during
Holy Communion.

Parish announcements are often made before Mass or before the final blessing.

Mass is from the sign of the Cross at the beginning to the sign of the Cross at dismissal. Just like any prayer.

Neither have I

I just wanted to give a traditional perspective on the current happenings.

I go to Mass to experience something supernatural ... mystical ... that happens at every Mass on the altar.

When I go to a Mass with lots of frivolity, I wonder 'why am I here?'
I get to feeling that I am only there out of obligation ... and that is a very sickening feeling.
Feels like legalistic religion.

They once asked Padre Pio what was the problem with clapping at Mass. He answered, “In Calvary there were those applauding Christ's death: soldiers and demons.”
I tried to search for this quote, and all I came across were people who were repeating it, with not a single one giving a citation or source; for that matter, no one I saw even specified who the "they" that supposedly asked Padre Pio about this were.

Can you or anyone else offer a citation for this quote? I have learned from experience to never trust any quote attributed to someone if no source is given. As Abraham Lincoln observed: "Not every quote you see on the Internet is true."

You should get better at sourcing. Keep trying

We had a couple get married during Mass last week and we clapped when they wed. I didn't feel it was disrespectful.
I attending a wedding this summer. The priest waited until AFTER the final blessing to introduce for the first time Mr and Mrs. ....

I thought it was very appropriate. Everyone of course clapped.

If you have a source for it, why don't you share it? Your statement indicates you do have one, which leaves me absolutely befuddled as to why, when replying, you didn't simply provide it and instead asked me to figure it out. If you have a source, please provide it.

Instead of being befuddled, google and look at the results, cross check the results, and I am sure you'll be satisfied.
