  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I see the company making On Packs the same as the big tobacco companies, both seek to get people addicted to nicotine for profit, usually the youth.
Yes, there’s never been a time since Raleigh sent back a boatload of tobacco that the tobacco industry wasn’t “for profit”. Well spotted.

My mother smoked cigarettes when I was growing up. Even as a kid, I hated how she'd leave cigarette butts in ashtrays around the house. And even worse, she'd toss butts in the toilet and not flush it. I'd go to bathroom and see the filter end of a cigarette floating in the bowl trailing a little brown wisp of nicotine. It was disgusting. But my uncle smoked a pipe, and I liked the smell of pipe tobacco. So when I started college away from home, I thought it'd be cool to be a pipe smoker. I didn't have the means to buy the really high-end tobacco, but I bought pretty decent product. I found out very quickly that the smell might be nice, but the taste was awful. And I never got the hang of properly packing the pipe, so it was constantly going out. After 2 weeks or so of frustration, I gave it up. My pipe smoking career was over. But this was the late 60s. And I soon began smoking something else.

If you were a smoker and quit what was your secret to quitting?
In 2016 I was having some age related use and abuse health issues and my doctor was trying to get me to quit. I was going to try Chantix, but could not get myself to do it. I had bought a vape pen to try it out, but kept smoking. One night I had a tachycardia event and switched to vaping gradually cutting down on my nicotine. That was early October 2016. I started at 18 mg, then 12, then 6, then 3 then 0. That was Sept 2017. I vaped 0 mg nicotine until at least Dec 2019 and then finally stopped that as well.

The cartridge units you buy at convenience stores like Juul are heavily loaded with nicotine and their purpose is to get consumers addicted and eventually switch to cigarettes. The eLiquids you buy in vape shops and on-line have varying amounts of nicotine and a great way to ween yourself off it. I didn't even notice a change in my physiological reaction to the decrease even though I was halving it every 2 months or so.

I did, but mainly because I wasn't getting much exercise. I lost a bunch of weight in 2016 while I was still smoking (down to 177) then put a little on every other month so that by October 2020 I was up to 240. At that point I started getting serious about calorie counting and exercise. Dropped down to 200 in 5 months, have been sitting at 190 for a year. I need to get down to 175 because of my height loss due to Ankylosing Spondylitis.

Didn't mean to be personal. Just wondering. Not knowing what to do with fingers people eat after stopping smoking:)

No worries. I'm glad you asked. I'm pretty proud of my "after" given how heavy I got.

When I realized life was pointless and living in the moment was no longer possible due to getting older

PS. Dear God. Unleashing Satan upon someone does not get someone to stop smoking. Especially when you do nothing to the millions of Christians and Jews who smoke
