  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Under D.C. law, people convicted of knowingly or willfully giving a false alarm of fire within the city can be hit with a fine and imprisonment of up to six months.

Moonie Times

This looks like an attempt to overthrow the government, and shut it down.

I don't think that a fine and six months is good enough.

The alarm was pulled in the House Cannon office building. It wasn't even the same building where the proceeding were going on, unlike the Jan 6th riot on the Capitol building itself. Any attempt to compare this to Jan 6th is absurd.

We know who wanted a shutdown. It was the 'freedom' caucus. The far right republicans wanted the shutdown. They lost.

This a great example of the Conservisphere hive mind. Someone over the weekend decided that "this was an insurrection" was a winning, lib owning talking point and it's been spreading. I saw it here and several times on Twitter last night.

I generally don't look at twitter. I made this assessment all on my own. It might be easy for those who are objective to observe axioms from an unbiased perspective.

Well, now that you have been informed that the alarm pulled was not even in the same building as the voting, and the man who pulled it did in fact vote FOR the government to remain open AND he immediately told officials the mistake he made (intent) - objective observations dictate that there was no attempt to 'overthrow the government'

Same as Jan 6 sentences.
Still pulling a fire alarm is beyond juvenile and for the record I find the whole January 6th thing to be made much bigger than it should have been. Also as someone who leans liberal on criminal justice shock I know I find 20 years for just about any non-violent crime WAY too much no matter who committed it.

still pulling a fire alarm is just beyond juvenile no matter what his goal was. You do not pull a fire alarm unless there is a fire. I do not care who did it the behavior is unacceptable by a grown man.

Whatever. Call him juvenile, just don't accuse him of trying to overthrow the government.

Why not... most of Jan 6ers were just being juvenile.
No, they were trying to overthrow the government and assassinate the Vice President and Speaker of the House, which is why deadly force was required to hold them off.

What part of deadly force is police opening the doors and waving people in?
