Example: I get accused of taking a flame thrower to a bus load of handicapped black orphans and poster “X” calls me every name in the book. Murderer, Racist, hate monger etc etc.

Then the trial comes and they find out it is some other handsome swarthy looking Latino with incredibly good teeth.

Poster “x” has just become guilty of slander. How could anyone believe them again? It makes them look less than complimentary

Good grief! That's *exactly* what @DaisyDay just wrote.

Presumption of innocence is a *legal principle* that is it applies to *legal proceedings* like trials. It doesn't apply outside of the court system.

It is all about the burden of proof. To convict someone the government must *prove* they are guilty to get a conviction, and it is not up to defendant to *prove* they are innocent to avoid conviction.
