They're my grandfathers. He has always raised Ostriches, he used to sell them 30ish+ years ago to other farmers and I think the zoo when they were worth a lot but now he just raises them because he likes them. They're fully grown now and most of these ones lived through to maturity which was nice.

My goodness they're huge! I knew they were big but seeing them next to someone changes the perspective. We'll be raising livestock too. I've considered a few birds but never thought of them.

How much do they eat and what's their temperament? What about predators?

I live in Australia so their only predators are hawks & foxes when they're young. Maybe dingos too if you live in a place with them present. They eat well on the farm and eat seed every now and then but most of the time they're out there grazing and eating what grows on the ground. They can get pretty cranky sometimes and are dangerous when they're laying & roosting, but when these ones were being raised my cousin used to go in and play with them so they're actually very well mannered for Ostriches. That's why my brother in the video could grab it's beak without it getting annoyed & hissing at him.
It kind of reminds me of the Garden of Eden and that animals are made to be friendly with man, that even though they're dangerous now there exists something still in them which allows them to interact & dwell in peace with us.

I wish you the best with the livestock as it can be a lot of work!

Edit: Just found this video of them displaying their temperament :p

Thanks for the well wishes and videos. They sound like cats!

We're starting small and keeping things simple while we're in school. She's studying agriculture and I'm doing a few design programs. We'll have hens year round and meat birds at different periods. We have to get accustomed to carrying for them before taking on more.

We're using this period to get acclimated and find a place. We'll have time to setup the infrastructure and forge connections with other farmers. Like most I get excited by seed catalogs, land and animals. We're looking at heritage breeds for preservation. It isn't a commercial operation and it's nice way to pay it forward.

Image from the James Webb telescope of the Rho Ophiuchi cloud complex, the closest star-forming region to our solar system. The area in the image contains approximately 50 young stars, all of which are smaller or similar in mass to the Sun.

Finally got to see Barbie today! Not only was the movie pretty good, but I loved walking through a theater filled with people wearing pink saying “hi Barbie!” to eachother! I also saw one of my old students and she was very excited and sweet. Overall win of an evening!

Amazing! That's gotta be breathtaking up close and in person.
Yeah they are pretty cool to look at but to be honest it was more wondering about how much of a pain it would be to re-paint when our summer makes it inevitably fade in 5 years haha.

Those are cool. I like the ones with the sheep :) It's really impressive that someone was able to paint something so large in scale.
I agree, though they must have been pretty tall in order to reach the top. Maybe the Nephilim are still with us after all :p

Found this when I was browsing my pc earlier for some art and thought it was pretty cool. They seem to be recreated not only based on their busts but also the descriptions we have of them. Some are definitely estimations, like Alexander & Pompey for example, but most of them look pretty real. Cicero looks like a spitting image of my old Pastor lol.
