I think I've been here too long. This reminds me too much of a thread from close to 15 years ago, about a Justice of the Peace who refused to marry interracial couples. Forgive me for not going back and trying to find the thread.

My belief here is the same as my belief in that case; you should not hold a government job if you are not willing and able to perform the duties required. In the military, I was required to follow lawful orders, even if it conflicted with my beliefs; I don't see why judges and justices of the peace should be held to a different standard.

Yep, you know, supreme court rulings don't really matter. Also, per the premise of the thread, a recent supreme court ruling is vitally important in that it means the judge in question to ignore the law.

I find that contradictions like this are pretty typical for far-right talking points. It tells me a lot about what the goal is, and it isn't fair and equal treatment under the law for all citizens.

Okay, so as an atheist you have no basis for declaring anything to be moral or immoral anyways. We are just matter in motion so whatever opinion you have on any moral issue is simply an opinion. Whereas my beliefs are based on a higher standard than myself - God.

All some will choose to see is someone being “persecuted” for their beliefs.
That’s a strong political-zeitgeist, though.
When a person is a government official, the person’s job is to be the government’s interface with the general public.

Their stated heartfelt beliefs don’t enter into the job.

On the other hand is the “where are my rights to hold what I believe?”

They leave them vouchsafed with their bosses, (we the people), while they’re on the clock.
If they have parts of the job that make them uncomfortable, they’re always allowed to seek a position where they’re not going run into loggerheads with the laws and rules of our society…that they’re being paid to administer.

After Hensley was warned by the judicial conduct commission, she filed a lawsuit claiming the investigation and warning “substantially burdened the free exercise of her religion, with no compelling justification.” She seeks damages of $10,000. She has been represented by the First Liberty Institute, a high-profile religious liberty legal group based in Plano. The legal group also has strong ties to suspended Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Her lawsuit alleges that the commission violated her rights under the Texas Religious Freedom Restoration Act. Her lawsuit was dismissed by a lower appeals tribunal, but last month, the Texas Supreme Court said it will hear arguments on whether to revive the state judge’s lawsuit.

This new brief, submitted last week by Hensley’s legal team, argues that though the Supreme Court used the First Amendment and not state law in the 303 Creative LLC v. Elenis case, the decision is also applicable in her lawsuit. The First Amendment case decided last month said a Colorado web designer cannot be forced by the state to compromise her beliefs and serve same-sex couples.

Amen praise God this is something the world can not understand. Psa 14:1/Psa 53:1 the fool says in his heart, "There is no God". In other words “sinful people do not believe in God.”

So some won't understand why we say AMEN to this. For me any job I take if anything goes against the word of God I will say something and not do it. Now Texas has every right to do this so does every other state. The people in each state have this right. They all can vote yes or no.. the judges can say yes or no.

So something like this that goes against the word of God praise GOD for those that take stand in a nation that was is given to God. He has not left He will keep His convent with us.. we might not but He will keep it. No offense .

If you cannot perform the duties of a job, the honorable thing to do is get another job that doesn't conflict with your conscience, not protest and whine about your privileges as a Christian.

How do you define "Jewish?"

"Jewish" is a derogatory slang word that relates to adhering to the teachings and practices of Judaism. I think the Rabbi encourage it's use to protect words that are holy and they do not want to see them abused or used in profanity.

Abraham was the first to cross over the Euphrates river to claim the land for his descendants. In Kabbalistic thought, the "river" is often associated with the barriers and obstacles that separate individuals from the divine or from a higher state of spiritual awareness. Crossing over this river represents the journey towards achieving a deeper connection with God, the divine realm, or a more elevated level of enlightenment.

If a judge cannot apply the laws fairly, then she can be impeached. Whether you like it or not, laws against two people marrying are unconstitutional in the United States. A judge refusing to marry two people who are otherwise properly disposed is violating their civil rights.

No, of course not. It's an argument ad absurdum. In order for there to be a marriage, it has to involve two people who are of appropriate age and both consent. Animals do not have the rights of people, that has been well established in US law for some time.

We need more people like this judge from Texas. "Gay marriage" never should have been legalized to begin with. No government should ever sanction same-sex relationships in any form.

I wonder if that would extend to judges who choose to ignore other laws in favor of their personal beliefs. For instance, a protestant judge who doesn't believe that Catholics have the right to religious expression.
Do we really need more people like that?
