PICKENS, S.C. (AP) — Former President Donald Trump marked a return to the large-scale rallies of his previous presidential campaigns, speaking to a massive crowd gathered in the streets of a small South Carolina city on a blazing summer weekend.​

“There’s nowhere else I’d rather be to kick off the Fourth of July weekend than right here on Main Street, with thousands of hardworking South Carolina patriots who believe in God, family and country,” Trump said Saturday to a roaring crowd in downtown Pickens as temperatures climbed into the 90s.​

Randal J. Beach, the police chief in the conservative Upstate community of about 3,400 residents, told The Associated Press on Sunday that his estimates of the crowd “were somewhere between 50-55,000.”​

There has already been a 'fact check' that estimated the crowd at 15,000. They failed to mention it was an estimate of the crowd almost three hours before Trump even landed.

I think crowd size is kind of an irrelevant metric (at least when trying to gauge nationwide appeal) when you're talking about events specifically made for people who are established fans.

To give that statement some context:
The one thing that a band that only 10% of the population likes has in common with a band that 60% of the population likes? They can both sell 20,000 tickets and sell out Madison Square Garden.

Bands like Slayer and Nickelback can sell out large venues despite not having a very broad appeal across the entire population

I think the dynamic is different, they weren't Clinton-worshipers, they were Trump-haters. The level of obnoxious behavior is similar, but there is a subtle difference.

They would've gladly backed another Democrat over Trump if one had been put on the ticket. (remember all the stickers and flags, etc... that said "Blue no matter who"). As to where the hardcore Trump fans refuse to entertain anyone besides him and only him and thinks that any republican who goes against him is a "rino/sellout"

The pictures attached seem to support 10-30K. I haven't seen evidence of 50k or more in the photos.

The funny thing is, I felt like screaming at the sky when Clinton lost, but not because I was a fan of hers. I didn't even think she was qualified to be president, considering her e-mail fiasco. If she had been running against anyone else, I wouldn't have voted for her. I felt that she was a far less dangerous option than Trump, and subsequent events have justified that opinion.

She referred to the actual deplorables as such. At no point did she say all Trump supporters were deplorable. Those who are not deplorable had no reason to be upset.

And if they did, was their violence justified, because "people are going to get mad and react"?

The violence happened later, on January 6, 2021. Many millions of his other supporters were, um, in support of this violence. That would certainty make them deplorable. Others resolved not to support him further.
