  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

"There are two giant but mysterious structures underneath the Earth’s surface, which just might be part of an ancient planet.

Yep, all this time we’ve been looking to solve the mysteries in space – but we’ve actually been standing on one all along.

That’s because underneath Africa and the Pacific, there are two large structures which are estimated to take up between three and nine percent of the Earth’s total volume, sitting between the surface and the planet’s metallic core.

The one under Africa is known as Tuzo, and is thought to be around 497 miles in height. The other is known as Jason, and is a little taller – this is estimated to be up to 1,118 miles in height."

Thanks @dlamberth. The stuff you find is really interesting.

I had heard about the origin of the moon as the possible result of a collision but the idea that that we may still be carrying the leftovers was news.

The Moon is not from a collision

I said possible result of a collision. There are a number of competing hypotheses although collision with a very big lump of spacey something is the current best bet.

I take it you have a different view?

Everything that earth is today is part of an ancient planet. There is no gap between a unique old earth and a unique new earth. Earth terraforms itself gradually over time. All this is, is just discovering new aspects of our planet's process of terraforming. Why do the BBC feels the need to clickbait the title?

I think you're confusing the MSN article with the BBC article, which is the first linked page since that has the good question of why there underground peaks taller than Mount Everest, and it's a very good read too. Very interesting, even if you don't know much about geology like myself.

It's a shame there's no pictures of the 'structures' because it'd be cool to see what they look like. Just to help visualize them.
If true, then most likely, they are simply two lumps of rock mass with a slight difference in density than that of the surrounding rocks (such as 3.4 vs 3.6). I believe the one in Africa is denser and the one in the Pacific is lighter (looser).

This thread went from interesting science to lizard men real fast.

I think the use of structure didn't help.

Granted, I imagined it as being something akin to a mountain, but some sort of visualization would still help. It's just the sort of guy I am.
