We have a wonderful cat that will be 18 in 2 months. She is in good shape for her age, indoor only, still goes up and down stairs and quality of life and health is
good. I'm thinking maybe she could live to be 20 or beyond. She's been the family pet, watched my kids move out, and she is very close to me.
When she passes, I will want another pet.
My thought process, though, is should I ?
Our piano tuner, who is in his early 70's and a cat lover, told me after his two 17 year old cats pass away, he won't be getting any more because he feels
that it would be unfair to the pets, as he doesn't know how many more years he has and cats can live a long time.
It got me thinking, I'm 66, my husband is in his mid-70s, and after this cat dies I would love another pet, but my piano tuners comments got me thinking the
same thing.
Now we could adopt an elderly cat,(which would be hard as we wouldn't have as much time with her) or a dog, which normally don't live quite as long,
but still, what if we want to travel or move or we pass away( we are both still in excellent health)
My piano tuner's comments just got me thinking, if we got another kitten and then add 20 years...............
Of course my kids could take the animal- but that's no guarantee.
Just something to think about?
