Speaking from a biblical perspective this is my viewpoint on the gun debate. Christians should be for gun rights. Why? Because guns are used for hunting and the Bible justifies hunting. Even if you're a Christian pacifist you've got to admit that guns are used for hunting. So if for no other reason Christians should be for gun rights because guns are used for hunting.
Of course, guns are also used for killing other people as well. So they should be well regulated and not just available to anyone

I speculate that most Christian gun owners don’t hunt or they have guns that are not intended to hunt with. I know the majority of Christians gun owners I know don’t hunt including myself.
You should try it, it's quite fun.

People already have to go through background checks in order to buy a gun. Lots of people use SEMI automatic firearms for hunting, it's been like that for well over 100 years. But now semi automatic guns are under attack because of there color and shape. That's ridiculous.

I used to go elk hunting in Wyoming every year with my boss and I loved it but someone broke into my house and stole my hunting rifle. Not long after I stopped working for that guy and haven’t been back since. I’d love to start going again but I can’t afford a gun safe and being much older and more responsible I won’t own another rifle without having a gun safe to keep it away from my kids and out of the hands of any criminals. I have a small 22 cal pistol for home defense and I keep it locked up in a lock box. I’ve been wanting to get back into hunting again, just don’t have the money to do it right now.

Semi automatics are the way to go for hunting. If there’s any significant wind your first shot is typically going to be used to gauge where you need to aim to hit your target. Once you fire that first shot your game is typically going to run and you don’t have much time to [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] a lever or bolt action rifle to get a second shot. By that time the game is usually out of sight. Not many people can accurately calculate wind and distance efficiently enough to bag a game on the first shot in windy conditions and when you’re out there hunting you never know what the wind is going to do. Best bet is to have a firearm that allows you to get that second shot off before it’s too late so you can use your first shot to gauge where to place the second one.

Edit: I have no idea why this post says “bless and do not curse” over and over. I didn’t type that nor did I type anything that remotely resembles a curse word.

Ok evidently you can’t use the four letter word that begins with the letter C and ends with the letter K in reference to reloading a firearm. That’s why it’s there.

Then you are going against the Bible because guns are used for hunting. the Bible justifies hunting.
Ignoring that one can hunt without a gun just fine (as they did in Biblical times), I support gun control, not necessarily a total gun ban.

If you want a non-automatic or non-semiautomatic, stock gun without the upgrades for the purposes of hunting, then super. However, an overwhelming number of gun sales are not to people who want to hunt, and none of the semi-automatic, enhanced non-automatic, AR-15 style guns are appropriate or designed for hunting animals. There is literally no reason the layman needs those and I’m perfectly fine with those being severely limited and/or banned.

Are you often finding yourself needing a gun to function or hold your ground in the face of somebody else with a gun?

I don’t think the solution with a bad guy with a gun is a self-appointed, layman “good guy” with marginal training holding a bigger gun. We don’t live in the Wild West.

And so are about a gazillion other things in the world, your point?

Anybody who can't be trusted with guns can't be trusted to be out in society.
Among those gazillion other things, is anything as effective?

But they are out there in our society. So far in 2023 95 mass shootings with 141 dead and 365 wounded. Do you have a solution to this problem or do you not see a problem?

Nobody needs a gun UNTIL they need a gun. Bullets are faster than calling 911 and waiting for police . Criminals don't care about gun laws. Felons are not allowed to possess any firearms but they do anyways and committ gun violence. Banning SEMI automatic firearms is only gonna hurt/punish Law Abiding Citizens.

Well, murders will always occur because some criminals will always resort to murder. We may as well make murder legal and allow people to preemptively murder people they feel like could be a problem. To outlaw murder only hurts and punished law abiding citizens who wish to not be victims. Same with drunk driving. People will always drive drunk, better strike down those laws too.

Semi automatic firearms have been legal to own for well over 100 years. Why ban them now ????

Because 100 years ago the US military and other worldwide nations weren’t sure they were ethical to use in wars and today, we have overcome that to such a startling degree that we can saw children in half with them during a mass shooting at an elementary school and not blink an eye, only say “yeah, but I’m not giving up mine.”

That doesn't make any sense. Let's punish Law abiding citizens. But let's give felons a slap on the wrist for committing gun violence??

There are almost 116,000 schools in the USA. How many of those schools had students get shot during class time ? What is the ratio ? The odds of being a victim of a school shooting is extremely low. Armed teachers or security guards would make those odds even lower. But good people shouldn't be allowed to have semi automatic firearms anymore because the odds of needing them for self defense are low ???

Criminals target Gun Free Zones. Why is that ???

A woman with a gun can prevent her from getting raped. Good people use guns for good things.

Machine guns are already illegal . Felons are not allowed to possess firearms. Why can't you be happy with that ???

So elementary aged kids sawed in half by a gun, resulting in a gory scene that made a mortician vomit, and who are only identifiable by dental records is an acceptable loss in the name of being able to own a gun. And that happening 371 times, impacting almost 400,000 kids… It’s all an acceptable loss. Got it.

Really big of you to say other people’s kids lives are worth giving up for the sake of being able to buy a semi-automatic gun you don’t need.

Because kids, schools, teachers, civilians keep getting senselessly murdered. Because the guns in question were created for war, for the specific purpose of maiming and killing people, and in 1911 when we started using them in the military, we did so reluctantly because we felt they were unethical. Because in 2023, those same weapons people feel they need or deserve. Because when the constitution was written, they weren’t talking about semi-automatic guns, nor are the people demanding them demanding them as part of a “well armed militia.” Because people say things like “guns protect rape victims” and “good guys with guns” like this is the Wild West or an 80’s action movie. Because people think other kids, like mine, being killed in preventable gun violence is an acceptable loss and I resent they’re so quick to offer up my kid for their supposed right to a gun. Because the people who advocate for such things have a poor understanding behind the history of the guns in question. Because a person with a gun is a person with a gun and were I in a situation with an active shooter, knowing some other ding dong with marginal gun training and a hero complex doesn’t make me feel safer, it makes me feel like I have to worry about two people with guys and their bullets hitting me. Because “I need a gun because people have guns” makes no sense.

PS, rape survivor here. You know what I didn’t need during the rape? A gun. A gun would have made things infinitely worse. That was a silly, silly comment I almost envy you for it because in order to say that, it means you don’t have the experience to know different or better. I’d love to think that’s how it works.
