  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Four?

Four? We had four guys?

USincognito was mentioning one example. 'Since the Oathkeepers have gone to trial and been convicted, I'll mention theirs.'

There's a whole thread for consequences and repercussions (primarily convictions) related to Jan 6 if you're interested in the topic.

If you think the Oath Keepers are a joke, that thread should keep you in stitches for a long time.

That is on video.. one news caster stating that he should have been shot..
Link?

And, supposing this were even true, since when is "one news caster" the left?

Way way way more than Mitch.
Are you conservative or libertarian?

Sorry, that doesn't fit what you are claiming. The officer is holding the door open for people that are leaving. Yes, he does not attempt to stop people who caught the door after a group left -- as has been explained, because of the number of protestors, the Capitol Police focused on keeping the protest peaceful and largely orderly. They feared what might happen if the crowd became violent, because of how badly outnumbered they were, and which could have easily happened if they tried to block other protestors or tried to arrest protestors.

Regardless, the video does not show a capitol policemen holding the door and waving them in -- it shows him at an interior door, holding it open for people who were leaving, and not stopping people who came in through an outer door where others were leaving.

Yeah he was letting them in. He didn't stop anyone. And there is a lot of video there. People were coming in the cop opened the door. Plain and simple.

Look I keep telling you all that the riot was unacceptable. People did get out of control. They should be and have been arrested and prosecuted.

But there were a TON of people who weren't. They marched
in and out again without any trouble at all. Acting very peaceful and orderly.

This want the worst day in history. No one was or was going to overthrow the government. A bunch of people protesting a demanding that the election be looked at to make sure it was fair and accurate. Yea they were upset. Protestors usually are otherwise they wouldn't be protesting.

But an insurrection. No there was no real insurrection.

Four?

Four? We had four guys? They didn't have weapons. There was no real plan. And they weren't very organized.
Four guys (out of 4) convicted in one trial of the Oath Keepers. The same case had a separate trial earlier with 3 of 5 being convicted by a jury. Two more in the same case have also plead guilty to seditious conspiracy. So that's 9 (of 11) from the Oath Keepers alone.

No plan. The Oath Keepers plan was (as presented in court) to be ready in Virginia across the river with guns for rapid deployment and at the Capitol without guns and wait until they were needed. They lived under the delusion (?) that the president would declare a riot/insurrection and deputize them as militia. So they wore similar gear with ID patches on it. Why some two groups of them decided to enter the Capitol while it was contested, I don't really understand.

[A second group called the "Proud Boys" gave up their usual yellow and black distinctive logo gear to go incognito (mostly) including impersonating "Antifa". About 200 of them marched about the Capitol and National Mall during the President's rally (unlike the OKers they did not attend the rally) and then were found at the front of nearly every breach of the Capitol and surrounding security perimeters. Five of their leaders are currently on trial for seditious conspiracy (a sixth has already plead guilty). For the last few days the Government has been providing evidence that the PB leaders used their own members and a few allies as "tools" to execute their plan to capture the Capitol.]

One group was waiting to be deputized to impose order against a civil disorder/riot/insurrection triggered by "Antifa" and another group was impersonating "Antifa" to trigger a civil disorder/riot/insurrection. Perhaps there was coordination...

This is what counts for January 6 to be the worst thing ever? These guys were the ones you are so afraid of?

There are a few guys and they were the ones supposed to be they big dangerous people who were going to take over the government? What a joke. They are a joke.
Who said they were trying to "take over the government"? This was all about keeping Trump in office one way or another contrary to the "will of the People".

As he has been told before, the "one news caster" not only isn't "the left", but

1. Not a newscaster but a political commentator and pundit,
2. Not a leftist, but a former Republican political operative (a "Never-Trump" type)

named Steve Schmidt. Schmidt is one of the "Lincoln Project" people and has run major Republican campaigns in the past. He was the top strategist for the McCain campaign and seems to have been the one who suggested adding Sarah Palin to the ticket. (In the movie "Game Change" about that campaign, Schmidt is played by Woody Harrelson.)

I have no clue what you're talking about or how it's relevant to what I just said. Bad choice does not automatically mean jail. You do understand that don't you?
Not when it comes to the supposed choice of trying to "overturn and election, insurrection, etc."

Anyone else notice a slow slide from 'they weren't guilty 'cos...Tucker Carlson's 4 minutes of video. I mean, police were opening doors!' to 'Hey, it wasn't an insurrection 'cos...well it just wasn't.'
And you can't understand how the narrative of "It was a violent insurrection!" is beginning to fall apart when the Capitol police who were said to be valiantly and courageously battling armed insurrectionists are now revealed to have simply smiled and held the doors open for the "rioters" to enter the building; and even motioning for them to come in as if they weren't already entering on their own?

That's ongoing isn't it?
Are you saying Trump never tried to have the election overturned?
After being told by the DOJ there was no corruption, what do you think Trump meant when he told the DOJ this, "Just say it was corrupt and leave the rest to me and the Republican congressmen."
What plan did he and those republican congressmen have in mind?

It's a disgrace that some of the police were in on it. Others were fearing for their lives.

Beats me! Maybe someone should ask him/them.
Meanwhile, the narrative laid out by those who seems desperate to pin something on Trump is unraveling as the evidence they wanted suppressed is now out in the open after multiple years. It took a Republican House majority to make that happen. Imagine how much more transparent the process would become if Republicans held more than just the House.

They are being asked despite the constant subpoena fights which lead to a lot of fifth pleading. What evidence was suppressed? What are you talking about?

You can show footage of that anytime you like. But it doesn't detract from the awful scenes of the pitched battles that we all watched live as the mob fought to gain entrance. Those scenes, in themselves, were terrible. But it wasn't just the violence. It was the intent that made it so hard to comprehend.

And you are now ignoring it. You are in denial. Worse, rather than hang your head in shame that such scenes could occur in America, and were seen live around the world, you are an apologist for what happened on that day.

And we all know the mental process that allows this. 'Hey, other people I consider to be the left rioted the previous year. So...umm...that means 'we' can't be blamed for this.'

That is likely the most pathetic argument being suggested that I'm likely to hear this year on this forum.

It actually does since it underscores the fact that the violent acts you refer to were only done by a minority.

And you are now ignoring it. You are in denial. Worse, rather than hang your head in shame that such scenes could occur in America, and were seen live around the world, you are an apologist for what happened on that day.

Plenty of worse things happen in America, including things that people that don't like Trump or his supporters are in denial of, such as what you point out below.....

And we all know the mental process that allows this. 'Hey, other people I consider to be the left rioted the previous year. So...umm...that means 'we' can't be blamed for this.'

And those who rioted last year can be excused for their actions because....reasons!

That is likely the most pathetic argument being suggested that I'm likely to hear this year on this forum.

Yeah, well it's the strawman argument you just constructed, so it doesn't surprise me.

Didn't I say this thread was heading in this direction..?
Heading toward the truth is the direction that's predictable as more information comes out and is presented.
