  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is believing/faith a work ?

Salvation is not conditional on faith. Salvation was provided by God before man was even created; from the foundation of the world.
Faith is required for us to receive salvation.
There is no such thing as a “works free” salvation, because faith is required to receive salvation, and action are required for faith.
Have sound judgment, as God has given to each of us a measure of faith. Rom 12:3

He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.
Through Him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead; 1 Peter 1:18-21

So we, numerous as we are, are one body in Christ (the Messiah). Rom 12:5

Great passages, and true. But these, as others, could be taken in many ways , especially if taken out of context. What is your meaning in quoting them?

That after faith has come, we are all one in Christ Jesus.

Seeking salvation by works of the flesh is idolatrous foolishness. Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.

We also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
Okay, if we condition salvation on anything we do, its an abomination to God, its works of the flesh.

Faith is required to receive Salvation. Okay is one Christ died for Justified before God before they receive it by Faith and while they are enemies and unbelievers ?

He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done. He did it through the washing of new birth and the renewing by the Holy Spirit; Titus 3:5-6

For to one the word of wisdom is given through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit; 1 Corinthians 12:8-9

What part of "God gives each a measure of faith" are you struggling with?

Now grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift. When He ascended on high; Eph 4:7-8

What if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before! It is the Spirit Who gives life, works of the flesh profits nothing. John 6:62-63

I don’t really understand your comment, so forgive me if I am answering the wrong question, but:

Christ died for the whole world, not just the justified. But only those who exhibit faith will receive the salvation He paid for, and become justified.
Yes, He did die for us while we were enemies of God, and unbelievers (as we all were before we came to Christ).

Im not struggling with anything, just reemphasizing:

Your belief that there can be no works associated with salvation means that you have an error in your understanding of Scripture.

You are right that our works do not earn our salvation. How could they? Our works come after Jesus’ sacrifice which paid for our salvation. But Scripture is very clear that our action lead to us receiving salvation.

Tell me:
In Rom 10:9-10, is salvation received before or after our verbal confession of Jesus as Lord?
In Acts 3:19, is salvation (sins wiped away) received before or after repentance?
In Mark 16:16, is salvation received before or after belief and baptism?
In Acts 2:38, is salvation received before or after repentance and baptism?

Because these examples clearly show salvation is received AFTER (as a result of) these actions are taken, any doctrine that promotes salvation being received without any action MUST be regarded as false.

Again, it's not based on what you do; For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves,
it is the gift of God. Eph 2:8

You still promoting salvation by works, conditioned on man.

Your continued harping on a fictitious “salvation by works” grows tiring. There is absolutely no Scripture that says there is no action necessary for man to receive salvation. If you believe there to be, lay it out so we can discuss it.

No. Salvation is a gift from God, not dependent on Man in any way for its inception.

However, that gift is only given to, and received by, those who obey Him (Heb 5:9).

Doesnt matter how you spin it, If you condition Salvation, any part of it on what you do, or think , its salvation by works and denies Grace !

Doug described what James refers to as "doers of the word" as opposed to deceiving yourself and looking at the natural man in the mirror. For the body without the spirit is dead.
