Human or non human?
I suspect Neanderthals were a part of the "beast" men that evolved in day 6, and who were translated into the "men in the image of the god" in verse 23. Later, in the garden of Eden that God created in the east of Eden, God created Adam and Eve and upon their banishing from the garden, they merged with the "beast" men already existing on the earth. All of our evolutionary and genetic issues stem from these "beast" men.

I have heard that they are 100% human and that there are living examples still to this day -- but the depictions of them are doctored a bit to get them to be less-than-human in appearance.

8 Neanderthal Traits That are Found in Modern Humans

New study suggests Neanderthals never went extinct

"edit the pics" one way and they look more ape like
"edit the pics" another way and you run into them all the time

Alot of people alive today actually have Neanderthal DNA. I certainly do, about 4 percent, which is typical for a northern European.

Another hominid that has descendants today, similar to Neanderthals, are Denisovans. Named after a cave in Russia. They are found mostly in Asian peoples.

There's no genetic evidence Adam and Eve ever existed. You can't take those stories literally as history. Our earliest male and female common ancestors lived a long time apart ,never as a couple.

Actually that's not true, at least not strictly speaking!
.
You see there are two small parts of dna i) Y chromosome for men ii) Mitochondrial for women that doesn't change when passed from father to son, mother to daughter, except for a minute blip every 8 generations. This is highly significant because it means that we know somewhere around 6-8,000 years ago everyone living was related to what's been termed "Y chromosome Adam" and "Mitochondrial Eve".

Unless you count mitochondrial Eve and Y-Chromosome Adam.

The Bible's creation model predicts such a result - evolutionism's counter doctrine on origins does not. The stories in evolutionism had to "bend" and adapt to that science fact when it was discovered - trying to rescue evolutionism from science fact.

You have to go back further than 6,000 years. Much further.

Jesus was given a body that descended from a man... not a myth:

Luke 3:23-38 KJV
23. And Jesus himself began...
....
...
...
which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.

I have been studying my ancestry for about 20 years. In this study I was amazed at how I am related to so many famous people of antiquity. William the Conqueror, all the Pentadentate kings. Mayflower passengers. There is a rule that says the further back you go the more people of that day you are related to. I discovered that over 35 million people in America are related to one or more Mayflower passengers. That is one in ten Americans. 210 million Americans are related to European royalty (so it is no big thing to be related to Longshanks). This is simply because of the way the population diversifies over time. Geneticist Adam Rutherford said, “literally everyone” with European ancestry is directly descended from Charlemagne. Just an interesting discovery to me.

Ground-breaking research published in the top journal Science(Sept.;2022) has shown that Neanderthals were less intelligent than us and thus clearly were examples of early atheists. Alright, alright, the last part is in jest. As cf member "return23" said , most of us homo sapiens do have ( about 2 percent) Neanderthal DNA in our genome.
Dr. Anneline Pinson discovered that a key gene called TKTL1 was different in us (homo sapiens) compared to Neanderthal's own TKTL1 gene.
The key TKTL1 gene codes for the number of neurons (brain cells- explaining for youth) in the brain's neocortex, which contains the frontal lobe ; the frontal lobe is incredibly important for complex, higher-level thinking like cognition says Dr. Pinson.
[
My frontal lobe has just melted. ]
She explains that the unique TKTL1 gene variant we homo sapiens have increases the number of neurons in the entire neocortex of our brains- and especially in the frontal lobe- compared to the Neanderthal brain's neocortex. [ Carl Zimmer, "What makes your brain different from a Neanderthal's; NY Times, Se 8/22}
-Neanderthals are considered among the 9 distinct species of humans, of which only homo sapiens remain.
-From what I have read it seems to me that with the ongoing research, the experts are somewhat divided on whether homo sapiens are of the same species as the Neanderthals.
I think they were fully human. They better be 'cause I'm part Neanderthal according to those paleogeneticists!

Been studying genealogy and genetics for some time. My DNA tests reveal that I have just over 2% Neanderthal DNA. Most of my ancestors come from northern Europe, including northern France, England, Ireland, and Scotland. Most Europeans have similar levels of Neanderthal DNA. However, Blacks have about 1/10th that amount (0.3%). This would tend to indicate that the Neanderthals were the result of an early migration out of Africa to Europe where they were isolated by the last ice age, and developed new traits not present in their Black ancestry. Unexpectedly, east Asians have the highest percentage at 3%.
