I know I'm not allowed to ask for medical advice on these forums so I'll try to make it as simple and short as possible while not asking for medical advice. I'm on blood thinners for life and have been on Coumadin since last Janurary. I've gained over 100 pounds while on Coumadin and I've heard nothing but positive stuff about Eliquis. Especially in the, you can eat whatever you want while on Eliquis department. Is this true? I see my doctor on December 5th and my doctors nurses are trying to talk me into asking my doctor to switch me to Eliquis since i gained so much weight on Coumadin. But I dont feel right asking for the change. Why? I just got an inr meter covered about 4 months ago and I'm sure it wasn't a cheap machine and testing supplies im sure were expensive. Nor is Eliquis it's about $600 a month whereas Coumadin is $5. I don't feel right asking my insurance for an expensive testing machine and then 4 months later asking for a $600 medicine when warfarin has been working its just annoying that I can't eat any vegetables while on it and my INR has been all over the place. I don't mind having to pick myself every week to get tested. I mean, it's bad enough that it costs hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to keep me alive. I feel like it's not worth it and I feel bad for my insurance. I try to save them money wherever I can. But I'm afraid of being over 500 pounds if I remain on Coumadin at the same time. Its like... I can't win either way. Is anybody else on blood thinners and can relate?
