• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is it possible to fully remove a post you made in a thread with this new software? I'm not talking about an edit to a post, but a full removal of it so you can't tell it was ever there. Like Post #3 is removed and the next poster is now #3.

Is that possible?

Thanks, never even noticed that there, I think that might cause some problems in the future though.

@doughtz will that make problems with the new software? I know from being on staff many times that there was always a problem with causing something with the database if we did that.

Why should there be such a short window of time?
Because what has happened before and not only just on CF is that when someone may get upset or something happens, is that they will go through and try to delete all their posts or edit the posts out which disrupt the discussion. So most forums limit editing and deleting to a short window to avoid that.

Most forums I've been on have had a time limit, but definitely longer than just three minutes. And also on at least one, the inability to delete a post once it had been quoted in a reply.

Personally I only delete if there was a major mess up, a double post because I hit reply instead of edit, or I realized the post was inappropriate (usually because I misunderstood someone, rather than it being something rule breaking).

Why is that a problem?
Because people have deleted their posts when they get mad sometimes and in an attempt to punish the forum, they delete or edit out posts which in turn disrupt or hurt the discussions they’re found in.
