  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I created a apple butter sandwich. My sandwich is part of the Universe.

Question: In this act, did I create the Universe?

No. I did. Now please leave my universe.

I have no idea what you mean by 'create'. Please explain how you go about this 'creating'.

Like most creations, first you take pre-existing matter or energy and then use transform it into something else. In this case, it would seem, a couple slices of bread and some "apple butter" and spread one on the other (probably with a finger) and you have something new that didn't previously exist.

As the open of that famous argument about gods goes:

Premise 1: All things that begin to exist began to exist from pre-existing material. (or something like that).

So God/ the Creator is sort of like 'Q'?

Although your apple butter sandwhich might share certain properties with universes, e.g., it is a whole with parts, I don't think making something qualifies as creating something, at least not as divine creating has been understood in the west. Divine creation is either ex nihilo or emanation. If your sandwich did emanate from your being, we would love to see the video. If you created your sandwich ex nihilio, a video will just look like you altered it. I'm really hoping for the former.

Surely you aren't saying that a divine being is nothing

If I did, I would quote Meister Eckhart. I wouldn't just through that out there without context.

No.

You performed an act of creatio ex materia, but one that hardly gives you credit for creating the universe it is in.

Insufficient information.
Can't vote .. there's no 'Insufficient information' option.
Then test it yourself.

Make an apple butter sandwich, then see if you feel you've created the universe.

If you feel you have, vote accordingly.

If you feel you haven't, vote accordingly.

Depends on my condition/state when I make the sandwich. Eg: if I'm on the edge of death, then 'universe', and every other word you're using there, has no meaning.
Insufficient information. Still can't vote due to shortfall in constraint specifications pertaining to a context.
