  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What is says is:

“Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.” This is a direct reference to Psalms 95 and is not referring to any new application as clearly shown by the text Hebrews 4:9-10 if seeking Truth to His Word. This also a repeat from the previous chapter Hebrews 3:15

Hebrews 3:15“Today, if you will hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”

What it does not say is
“Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.”enter His Sabbath rest every day and you can disobey the Sabbath commandment. Which contradicts this entire passage and all of God’s Word.

This verse is a warning to those who harden their heart to being disobedient to God Hebrews 4:6. The reference was breaking the Sabbath commandment- Ezekiel 20:13. As seen we are to keep the Sabbath in the very same passage Hebrews 4:9-10

We should be careful adding our words to the pure Word of God, similar to what you did with John 14:15, 1 John 5:3, Exodus 20:6

You are actually doing exactly what the warning in this scripture is telling you not to do. This is a warning is to be a true worshiper of God as we are called to worship Him in Truth and Spirit John 4:23-24 and not worship in vain Matthew 15:3-9 by placing traditions over the commandments of God.

I’m not the one you need to convince so I guess we will have to agree to disagree and the scriptures are shared with love. God bless.

Yes it seems there is a clash of spirits...

I write not for my sake but for the sake of those who might read your offerings and loose grace by coming under law.

Romans 14:5
One person regards one day above another, another regards every day alike. Each person must be fully convinced in his own mind.

Have a great day.

Agreed. 1 John 3:8, Isaiah 8:20 1 John 2:3-5, Matthew 7:21-23, 1 John 3:4

I write not for my sake but for the sake of those who might read your offerings and loose grace by coming under law.
You mean the offering that we should obey God so we can live in His grace? You might also consider reading Matthew 5:19 in regards to what Jesus wants us to teach each other and a warning to those who teach against the commandments.

Romans 6:15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not!

Does grace allow you to covet, or worship other gods? Of course not and James says we break one of the commandments quoting from the Ten we break them all James 2:10-12 Jesus also saying we should keep the least of the commandments Matthew 5:19 (which means all). The least is not the one that uses the words “holy” “blessed” and the one God said “Remember”.

Romans 14:5
One person regards one day above another, another regards every day alike. Each person must be fully convinced in his own mind.

Have a great day.

Not sure if you read the context, but this is about judging and food. Neither are in the Sabbath commandment and this is a discussion on some of the feast days that has nothing to do with the keeping or not keeping the Sabbath commandment. Paul already told us what matters is keeping the commandments of God 1 Cor 7:19

Also what a person esteems one day over another is of no consequence, but if one is seeking the will of God, He does esteem one day over another

Exodus 20:10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God.
Lev 23:3 Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the LORD
Isaiah 58:13 “If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath,
From doing your pleasure on My holy day,
And call the Sabbath a delight,
The holy day of the Lord
Mark 2:28 Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath.”
Isaiah 66:23
And from one Sabbath to another,
All flesh shall come to worship before Me,” says the Lord.
Isaiah 56:6
“Also the sons of the foreigner
Who join themselves to the Lord, to serve Him,
And to love the name of the Lord, to be His servants—
Everyone who keeps from defiling the Sabbath,
And holds fast My covenant

The disciples also said we ought to obey God over man. Good advice.

It is amazing what lengths some go to to avoid the clear reading of the text.

No wonder God did not choose to give authority to the scholars.

About wisdom, here's a practical application:

There's something about building an altar out of dirt.

ok -- but I think the title of this thread is "Saturday or Sunday church"

.

The italics in Rom 14:5 indicate that the word "alike" is an insert and not part of the actual text.

So then "one man regards/observes one day above another, while another regards every day" speaking of the Bible approved annual holy days in Lev 23.

By contrast in Gal 4 some people who were former pagans "returned again" to observance of certain pagan days and Paul condemned it.

Heb 10 makes it clear that animal sacrifices ended at the cross -- so here again we have it in written code, in scripture and scripture is the direct work of the Holy Spirit..

Hebrews 10 only pertains to sin offerings not ceremonial sacrifices.

“Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, because the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have had consciousness of sins? But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins year by year. For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. Therefore, when He comes into the world, He says, “Sacrifice and offering You have not desired, But a body You have prepared for Me; In whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin You have taken no pleasure.”

Option B sill requires Sabbath-keeping. How do you reconcile verse 10 on what you have to do to enter into that rest?

Verse 10 doesn’t say that resting on Saturday is what we must do to enter into Christ’s rest.

“For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4:10‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

God worked for six days and rested on the seventh day. I haven’t done any work all day today. I worked Monday to Saturday and rested on Sunday which is my usual schedule.

Please point in scripture where God rests and tells us to rest and you will have your answer. Please post scripture (There is only one answer in scripture) What you do is not a concern because you are not God, only God’s Words are what counts and He was very clear the day God rests and very clear the day we are to cease work and rest, God deemed all other days working days so it is easy to identify. The day we rest is how we enter into the rest in Christ which connects to verse Hebrews 4:9- there remains a Sabbath keeping for the people of God.

STRONGS NT 4520: σαββατισμός

σαββατισμός, σαββατισμου, ὁ (σαββατίζω to keep the sabbath);

1. a keeping sabbath.

2. the blessed rest from toils and troubles looked for in the age to come by the true worshippers of God and true Christians (R. V. sabbath rest): Hebrews 4:9. (Plutarch, de superstit. c. 3; ecclesiastical writings.) - this reconciles with Exodus 31:17 It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.’ ”

I find it very strange how many people go out of their way to avoid the Sabbath scripture. Over 150 scriptures throughout the bible on the Sabbath which is the Holy day of the Lord thy God thus saith the Lord Exodus 20:10, Isaiah 58:13, Mark 2:28 I don't understand how anyone can argue with it to be honest if seeking God's will. Nothing saying the first day was made holy by God, blessed by God or sanctified for holy use by God. No commandment for Sunday-keeping, but there is for Sabbath-keeping spoke by God, written by God's finger. Sunday-keeping doesn't happen in Heaven or the New Earth but Sabbath-keeping remains thus saith the Lord. Isaiah 66:23

Like I said before no amount of scripture seems like it is going to convince you and thats your choice.

You find it very strange how people go out of their way to avoid that scripture? I find it very strange that I presented BOTH definitions from strong’s concordance and you still refuse to admit that there are two definitions given for that word. I just showed you by copying and pasting both definitions which you no doubt have seen for yourself when you looked it up the first time and ignored it and now you ignore it again when I showed you in the very post you just replied to.

Sure thing, I’ve done this countless times before in this discussion but I don’t mind showing you again.

““Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath of the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and made it holy.”
‭‭Exodus‬ ‭20:8-11‬ ‭NASB1995‬

For the fiftieth time He did NOT say the seventh day OF THE WEEK.

There are only seven days in a week, so you can say it a sixteenth time and that won’t change this fact.

It’s late my time signing off and wish you well in seeking Him in His Word.

God bless.

And I already explained that I believe that verse is referring to the rest those in Christ receive in the age to come.

What does that change- nothing. It’s a 7 day cycle that has not changed from the very beginning. I believe God is in control of His Word and He is not going to command us to do something that no one knows how to do. It’s not the God we serve. It’s not like every Jew on this planet was killed and no one knows the day of the Sabbath. You are slicing hairs my friend.

Night all!

In Psalms 119:142, God's law is truth, in Psalms 119:160, the sum of God's word is truth, in John 1:14, the word of God became flesh and dwelt among us, and in John 14:6, Jesus said that he is the way, the truth, and the life, so he was claiming to be the living embodiment of God's law, which is evidence by the fact that he set a sinless example of how to walk in obedience to it. In Hebrews 1:3, the Son is the exact expression of God's nature, so he is the personification of God's nature expressed through God's law, or in other words he is the physical manifestation of God's law, so obedience to the law of which he is the living embodiment is the way to believe in the nature of who he is, or in other words, the way to believe in him. This is why there are many verses that connect our faith in God with our obedience to him, such as those that I listed in my previosu post. The way that we live testifies about what we believe to be true about the nature of who God, is so when we do good works in obedience to God's law we are expressing the belief that he is good and testifying about His goodness, which is why our good works bring glory to Him, and it is that faith that by which we are justified. The way to believe in Jesus is not by rejecting the law that God gave to testify about the nature of who he is.

I have already stated that all of the moral laws are contained in the New Testament. I’ve never implied that we can live an immoral way of life and still expect to receive salvation. Hence the statement on my profile “He is a way of life”. Christ is how we live our life.

So we cannot make the claim that "Not the OT commandments" is a teaching of the NT.
Or "Not a commandment for us -- if we find it in the OT".. that is also not a doctrine in the NT.

And like I said before if the covenant requirements have not changed then we wouldn’t have a new covenant. If what your saying is true then circumcision of the foreskin would still be required to enter into God’s covenant because that’s exactly what He commanded in the Old Testament. Sin offerings would still be necessary because that’s exactly what He commanded in the Old Testament. All of the Sabbath days would still be a requirement because that’s exactly what He commanded in the Old Testament.

Nope. SDAs teach that Jesus will return/appear after the future tribulation as Matt 24 says. At that point the saints will be rapture as we see in both Matt 24 and also 1 Thess 4. It is the same as the Rev 19 event that starts the 1000 year millennium.
Sorry you don't understand. God knows us through our obedience to Him according to God's Word. 1 John 2:3-5, Matthew 7:21-23
You are still a slave to the old covenant of Law. I've come into the glorious liberty of the children of God. You can stay in the shadow, I prefer the Light. I do not use my freedom as a licence to sin. Neither do I allow myself to be judged by the Law. I died to the Law. It no longer applies. (Galatians 2:19). You don't understand the meaning of the Cross. Romans 10 explains the relationship of Law to the Christian.
Romans 10:8
8But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9that if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For with your heart you believe and are justified, and with your mouth you confess and are saved.

It says NOTHING about obeying the Law.
