Re. angels: If you’re open minded, and not easily offended, you might consider reading an early 20th century French novel, La Revolte des Anges (The Revolt of the Angels.) Written by Anatole France, a journalist, author, and critic. It’s about the guardian angel of a wealthy young man, who comes down to Earth to study in the man’s extensive library. He reads books on history, philosophy, science, theology, geography, and many other topics. He comes to suspect that everything he thought he knew about God, is upside down. God is not the righteous, holy deity as portrayed in the Bible. He’a actually a power-mad demiurge (a minor god) who craves worship and adoration. Satan, OTOH, who was the greatest and brightest angel is the true lover and benefactor of mankind. Who led the unsuccessful rebellion against the dictator God, and whose name and reputation have been falsely smeared for all eternity. I won’t get into the rest of the plot. The link has more info:

Of course, the book was immediately banned as heretical and blasphemous by the RCC when it was published. But that didn’t prevent Anatole France from winning the Nobel Prize for literature. Being banned might actually have helped it win.
