  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Has the Holy Spirit explicitly led you to keep the Sabbath?

Some believe the Godhead keeps the old covenant Sabbath that was given only to those at Sinai and their posterity. That would mean that in place of God resting from creation for 24 hours, the Godhead would be resting for 48 hours if it were true that mankind has been instructed to observe a day.
Brother, without taking into account the extreme circles of the Arctic and Antarctic, the tradition since Joshua has God keeping a Sabbath of 36 hours instead of 24 hours.

SunRays.png

The other side of the world would begin its Sabbath 12 hours later, making the total Sabbath for God, 36 hours instead of 24 hours since Joshua. In the following passage, "another day" refers to a day other than the one thought for the Sabbath since Joshua: not the seventh day of the week everywhere, but the seventh day of the creation week remembered in the time zone of creation.

Now if Joshua had succeeded in giving them this rest, God would not have spoken about another day of rest still to come. (Hebrews 4:8 NLT)

God gave instructions to remember the Sabbath in Jerusalem at an earlier time, from evening to evening than the seventh day of the week from morning to morning, defined in Genesis and confirmed below.

long after the Sabbath (evening), as it dawns beyond Saturday (morning), came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary, to see the tomb. (Mathew 28:1, my own translation)

The Sabbath is from sundown to sundown, one revolution of the planet. God has not mentioned hours; time is always a scale of measurement, hours are not used by God, you may use them but avoid confusion.

I still haven't grasped your point; you may be talking about four nights and four days in the tomb, which involves a high day as well as the weekly Sabbath, (two preparation days); in Israel when the sun sets is not precise; if you are on one side of a hill the sun will set earlier or latter than on the other side of the hill; the Sabbath would start on different times when compared with a different scale

God sanctified the seventh day when one keeps it one keeps it unto the Lord; Sunday is sanctified by Rome, when one keeps Sunday one keeps it to Rome; the number of hours are not important, what is important is, is one for the Lord of the Sabbath or against Him; and how is the Holy Spirit explicitly involved.

Brother, happy Sabbath! The Sabbath is the seventh day of creation made "holy" and rescued from human tradition in Hebrews 3 and 4. There were two possibilities for how to remember the Sabbath of creation, either set in the creation time zone independent of the week, or traveling with the week as it revolves around the Earth. Judaism got it wrong since Joshua because they did not benefit from God's instruction with Manna during the 40 years in the desert near the Promised Land.

Now if Joshua had succeeded in giving them this rest, God would not have spoken about another day of rest still to come. (Hebrews 4:8 NLT)

Hebrews 3 and 4 tells us that by "oath", God's instructions during their punishment with Manna did not allow them to enter the Sabbath. That if you are off by half a day, you don't enter the Sabbath as was the case for 40 years with Manna keeping the seventh day of the week from morning to morning, which God says doesn't enter His "rest" near the Promised Land, which they entered later in the Promised Land earlier from evening to evening than their local seventh day of the week from morning to morning. This truth is found in God's definition of a day in Genesis and is verified in the following passage.

long after the Sabbath (evening), as it dawns beyond Saturday (morning), came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary, to see the tomb. (Mathew 28:1, my own translation)

361381_ff7aae7ab7169d40699276fc6f90eac7.png

The Holy Spirit has not helped correct the Sunday tradition with Saturday, because the Saturday tradition of Judaism is equally a human tradition! No one has the biblical Sabbath corrected by Jesus and explained in Hebrews 3 and 4. Telling us how God prevented people from entering His Sabbath by "oath" by forcing them to keep the wrong Sabbath near the Promised Land. For 40 years with Manna, the wrong Sabbath did Joshua no good because he wrongly assumed that the Sabbath in the Promised Land, at an earlier time than with Manna, was the seventh day of the week when it actually falls before the seventh day of the week between two days of the week as verified in the following passage.

long after the Sabbath (evening), as it dawns beyond Saturday (morning), came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary, to see the tomb. (Mathew 28:1, my own translation)

Read Acts 10. Peter was led to break Mosaic law.
Mosaic law is not the same as breaking Gods' 10 commandments that give us the knowledge of what sin is when broken under the new covenant *Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7; 1 john 3:4. I do not see in Acts of the Apostles 10 anywhere that Peter broke the Mosaic laws either to be honest. What laws do you think he broke?

He was led to break Mosaic dietary laws and enter a Gentile home which is forbidden. Those particular Mosaic laws were strictly given to the same people who received the 10 commandments.

Really? In Acts of the Apostles 10? Where does it say Peter broke the dietary laws there? Are you one of those mistaken people who believe in the false teachings of lawlessness (without law or no law)?

And where did I say that Peter broke the Jewish dietary laws in Acts 10? Paul in Galatians 2:14 says that Peter did not follow Jewish laws!!

Moses had trouble administering the Law, the Israelites resisted him and he had to get tough. The food Laws are to do with good health and if one breaks the one does so at ones own peril and with disregard to God's council. When Jesus sent the seventy out to the lost sheep, He told them to eat what ever was placed before them.

Brother, that's a bad translation! The original does not say that others decide what you eat. After 14 bad translations, we have the first correct translation in biblehub.com, where you decide what to eat "of what is theirs".

“But stay in that house while you are eating and drinking of what is theirs, for the worker is worthy of his fare, and do not move from house to house.” (Luke 10:7 HPBT)

Hi Sparrow,

I agree with your post. But since you quoted me and answered with something unrelated to what I said, I will recount my interaction with LoveGodsWord (its what he calls himself):
  1. Me: God put Peter a trance where he commanded him to violate Jewish dietary laws in Acts 10.
  2. LoveGodWord: Rejects that Peter was commanded to violate Jewish dietary law because there is no record of Peter doing so in Acts 10.
  3. Me: There is proof Peter violated Jewish Laws, but it is not in Acts 10 - it is in Galatians 2. Here, Paul calls out Peter for hypocrisy in Galatians 2 - for forsaking Gentile believers (who also did not practice Jewish laws) and acting as if he himself kept Jewish laws (when he did not) in order to commune with Jewish believers. Note: Paul faulted Peter for hypocrisy, not following Jewish law.

This scientific picture of a round earth depicting the rotational axis, the poles, and the Arctic and Antarctic circles does not include the International Date Line. Magellan's expedition provided proof the earth was round, as the sailors (Magellian did not make it) on that trip counted one less sunset during their journey than the people who stayed in Spain. This was due to the fact that the earth is round. If Magellian's expedition had travelled in the other direction they would have counted an extra sunset. This type of date problem did not exist when only the old world was known.

The problem was arbitrarily resolved by using an arbitrary International Date Line. If you travel from West to East across the International Date Line, you add a day (for example, Monday at 3:00 PM turns into Tuesday at 2:00 PM). Conversely, when you travel from East to West across it, the opposite is true (Tuesday at 2:00 PM turns into Monday at 3:00 PM). This rule provides date/time consistency when circling the globe.

Since the International Date Line, drawn in the middle of the Pacific, is man-made and arbitrary, so is the understanding of date/time in the New World (i.e. the Americas). For example, if that International Date Line had been drawn in the middle of the Atlantic, the New World date/time would have gone back a day in the Americas (i.e. with Sunday turning into Saturday in the Americas).

For the legalists, the question is what day is America on? If God views the International Date Line as running longitudinally in the middle of the Atlantic instead of longitudinally in the middle of the Pacific (and who is to say), then those who are viewed as going to church on Saturday are actually going to church on Friday, and those who view themselves as going to church on Sunday are actually going to church on the Sabbath. That is all that is important - right? :liturgy:

Hi John Mullally,

This subject is discussed in great detail over on this thread
Are different Sabbaths true?

I think it's an interesting approach. I'm not saying I agree with it, but it's worth considering imo.

The short answer is that the Sabbath is fixed to sunset in Jerusalem. I wouldn't want to derail this thread, but I'd love to restart that other thread with fresh input!

Brother, it is through Paul that God calls us, in the new covenant, to keep the true Sabbath of God rescued from the human tradition of Judaism since Joshua. The "rest" spoken of in Hebrews 3 and 4 "has been ready since He made the world". God did not give them this "rest" for 40 years with Manna! They kept a seventh day Sabbath from morning to morning, which was right in Eden, but not near the Promised Land. When they reached the Promised Land, they switched to a Sabbath from evening to evening, which is not a day of the week as defined in Genesis from morning to morning and confirmed below, because the Sabbath remembered is in the time zone of creation.

long after the Sabbath (evening), as it dawns beyond Saturday (morning), came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary, to see the tomb. (Mathew 28:1, my own translation)

361381_ff7aae7ab7169d40699276fc6f90eac7.png

Although God gave them His Sabbath in the Promised Land, under Joshua they did not understand the "rest" of God's Sabbath to keep the Sabbath outside the time zone of the Promised Land. To correct this misunderstanding since Joshua, "God set another time for entering His rest, and that time is today", in the new covenant with the call in Hebrews 3 and 4 to keep God's true Sabbath "rest". The "rest" that God wants us to enter "today", in the new covenant when believers find themselves living outside the time zone of the Promised Land, "has been ready since He made the world".

For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience. (Hebrews 4:8-11 NIV)

As a disclaimer the teachings of @guevaraj is not reflected of what the SDA church teaches on the Sabbath or what the scriptures reveal. This is a man-made teaching that leads people away from keeping God’s Sabbath commandment. There is nothing in scripture about international datelines, the Sabbath is only in the Jerusalem time zones etc. Anyone can enjoy the Sabbath and keep it holy according to the commandment regardless where one lives from Friday evening (sunset) to Saturday evening (sunset).

This is the official statement of belief by the SDA church:

The gracious Creator, after the six days of Creation, rested on the seventh day and instituted the Sabbath for all people as a memorial of Creation. The fourth commandment of God’s unchangeable law requires the observance of this seventh-day Sabbath as the day of rest, worship, and ministry in harmony with the teaching and practice of Jesus, the Lord of the Sabbath. The Sabbath is a day of delightful communion with God and one another. It is a symbol of our redemption in Christ, a sign of our sanctification, a token of our allegiance, and a foretaste of our eternal future in God’s kingdom. The Sabbath is God’s perpetual sign of His eternal covenant between Him and His people. Joyful observance of this holy time from evening to evening, sunset to sunset, is a celebration of God’s creative and redemptive acts. (Gen. 2:1-3; Exod. 20:8-11; 31:13-17; Lev. 23:32; Deut. 5:12-15; Isa. 56:5, 6; 58:13, 14; Ezek. 20:12, 20; Matt. 12:1-12; Mark 1:32; Luke 4:16; Heb. 4:1-11.)

Sister, our prophetess confirmed there was more to learn in the future!

I saw that it is even so: “From even unto even, shall ye celebrate your Sabbath.” Said the angel: “Take the word of God, read it, understand, and ye cannot err. Read carefully, and ye shall there find what even is, and when it is.” I asked the angel if the frown of God had been upon His people for commencing the Sabbath as they had. I was directed back to the first rise of the Sabbath, and followed the people of God up to this time, but did not see that the Lord was displeased, or frowned upon them. I inquired why it had been thus, that at this late day we must change the time of commencing the Sabbath. Said the angel: “Ye shall understand, but not yet, not yet.” Said the angel: “If light come, and that light is set aside or rejected, then comes condemnation and the frown of God; but before the light comes, there is no sin, for there is no light for them to reject.” I saw that it was in the minds of some that the Lord had shown that the Sabbath commenced at six o'clock, when I had only seen that it commenced at “even,” and it was inferred that even was at six. I saw that the servants of God must draw together, press together. (Testimonies for the Church, vol. 1, Page 116)

God is not going to give a commandment that we will be judged by James 2:10-12 that no one understands. You are reading into scripture on what it clearly does not say (international datelines, time zone of Jerusalem only) and leading people away from the commandments of God.

The scripture is filled with how to keep the Sabbath correctly, we should follow God’s Word and not the teachings of man. Jesus told us to be careful of our teachings, especially when it comes to the commandments of God. Matthew 5:19. Matthew 15:3-9, Mark 7:6-8. We will all be accountable come judgement day for what we have done. 2 Cor 5:10.

Take care.

Sister, God taught us and them in the desert for 40 years how not to enter His "rest" by keeping the seventh day of the week outside the time zone of Eden, which did Joshua no good when they assumed incorrectly that the Sabbath in Jerusalem is the seventh day of the week "because they didn't share the faith of those who listened to God".

And who was it who rebelled against God, even though they heard his voice? Wasn’t it the people Moses led out of Egypt? And who made God angry for FORTY YEARS? Wasn’t it the people who sinned, whose corpses lay in the wilderness? And to whom was God speaking when he took an oath that they would never enter his rest? Wasn’t it the people who disobeyed him? So we see that because of their unbelief they were not able to enter his rest. God’s promise of entering his rest still stands, so we ought to tremble with fear that some of you might fail to experience it. For this good news—that God has prepared this rest—has been announced to us just as it was to them. But it did them no good because they didn’t share the faith of those who listened to God. For only we who believe can enter his rest. As for the others, God said, “In my anger I took an OATH: ‘They will never enter my place of rest,’” even though this rest has been ready since he made the world. We know it is ready because of the place in the Scriptures where it mentions the seventh day: “On the seventh day God rested from all his work.” But in the other passage God said, “They will never enter my place of rest.” (Hebrews 3:16-19, 4:1-5 NLT)

Again, you are reading into scriptures on what it clearly DOES NOT SAY. They never entered into Christ rest because of disobedience Hebrews 4:6 not because they kept the Sabbath in the wrong time zone. I won't discuss this further, just letting the readers know that what you are teaching is not what the church you claim to be part of teaches, nor does the scripture.

Sister, the message in Hebrews 3 and 4 says that they did not enter the Sabbath because God made an "oath" to prevent them from entering the Sabbath. He punished them with Manna, forcing them to keep the wrong Sabbath on the seventh day of the week near the Promised Land for 40 years. No matter how sorry they were after the "oath", they were not allowed to enter those 40 years because of the "oath".
