Yep...I called it over two years ago. The politicians capitalised on the movement because it was politically convenient. But after the 2020 election, support for BLM, both the movement and the organization, was dropped like a cheap prom date.

Once upon a time in a land real real close, the concept was to eliminate the concept of race and see all as humans and judge them by character. But I guess it wasn't useful in promoting causes related to self interest and now race is back in the picture as a useful tool, at the hands of those who once wanted to break free of the distinction. A different generation that cancels history and as a result are easily led. It's too bad.

It sure got me thinking hard about how much society has failed black Americans. And the problem isn't "systemic racism" or some nameless/faceless white supremacist trying to keep the black man down.

So 'societal racism'. I could go with that. And it's not racism with overt intent. No white supremacist intent on keeping the black population down (with obvious exceptions). I could go with that as well.

Unless you are a BLM organiser, you ain't getting a dime. Even as a black man, I have seen zero BLM dollars put toward improving the lives of my family or my community.

That's my point. Money seems not to be an issue (although money is needed to solve quite a few problems).

Multiple violent crimes and robberies, drug use, resisting arrest, counterfeit money. Cops didn't arrest George Floyd for no reason. Not defending what the police officer did. Just noting that it was completely preventable had George made better life decisions.

That's what I thought. It would be foolish of someone going out in the rain without an umbrella to blame the rain if they get wet.

Which once again goes into the 'blame victims' mentality you're trying to advance without actually coming out and saying it. Why do so many people lack the courage of their convictions?

Some of them seem to have taken advantage of the situation for their own benefit. As did some people when there were marches that turned into looting and rioting. Does nothing for 'the cause'. As we have seen all too often in posts on this subject.

So other than merely getting people to "think" and "ask questions," could you please tell me how the movement improved my life? I am asking because I have seen nothing but more racial tension and division as a result.

Practical improvements? Hardly none. That's a matter for state and federal authorities to sort out. To direct funding where it would help those who need it. But thinking and asking questions can win hearts and minds. It focuses the mind on what needs to be done and prompts people to act.

It's a slow process. Sometimes change takes a generation.

Unfortunately you're not entirely wrong. It's not just the organisers of the BLM ifself were taking advantage of the situation. But BLM is more than a soundbit or a bumper sticker. If it's treated as such then not much is being done.

What we should really do is ignore the far right and far left on these matters and concentrate on the actual problem. Which I think we all agree exists in some form or another. Scoring political points is not just ignoring the problem - it's exacerbating it.

Then challenge them on it. Enter into a dialogue. Put forward your views. Make an argument. Be constructive. All I've seen you do so far is try to win political points. That's not to going to get anyone anywhere.

The problem is entirely cultural. A predominantly fatherless culture that is unwilling to accept any responsibility for their poor decisions and are deceived to think that they are incapable of success without support from others.
