How about we don't hire anyone and just let individuals make their own choices of whether to buy or rent; how much to pay; where to live, etc. I think that is a cross between free market and individual responsibility.
...says the guy who likes the govt telling people what they can't build on their property.

That's what we're doing now, and it doesn't seem to be working, at least in terms of solving homelessness or the lack of affordable housing.

Just ran into someone who said that according to Newsmax, Biden is going to nationalize all the golf courses in the US and turn them into federal housing projects for illegal immigrants.

So I guess we've solved the problem!

I have got to see the source for this.

(Mainly because it would be awesome!)

I know! I've been googling around but so far it appears that this "breaking news" is being kept hidden by the MSM and only accessible by "those in the know"!

So you don't think property should be zoned for use? Just willy-nilly do whatever you want regardless of how it affects other people?

Uh-huh.....so how are the 'solutions' to the homeless problem working out?......Been solved yet?......I mean, not like we started it just a few months ago. 1964 (IIRC), 'War on Poverty'. I think we lost that one.........

Right. See, that's why several people on this thread have been suggesting some new solutions. And your apparent insistence on not changing anything doesn't seem very helpful.

'I'm saying that blacks are not the demographically significant "threat" to white men in any of these areas that white women are.'

I think the idea is that, if we're asking who is 'taking' jobs away from white men, there are just more white women than black people. Women are a larger pool of competition.

Ahhh....ok.

I was thinking more in terms of the ideological origins of this idea that "diversity, equity, and inclusion" aka "less straight white men" equals something good.

I suppose this would be true for jobs that have a higher percentage of women applying. There are however, many fields women are only slightly interested in, and it wouldn't hold true for those.

That would be fine in rural areas where hardly anyone is homeless... But what works in most parts of America, doesn’t work here where I live.

We have problems that need solving.

I totally agree with zoning.

But zoning doesnt really square with the principles you promoted earlier: "free market and individual responsibility". Zoning is a massive regulatory intrusion into the market.

Zoning can be an intrusion, when it's done negatively. But when done 'positively', such as reduced taxes for growth purposes in an area, it might have a beneficial influence... We don't know because it's never been tried.

Why not instead just allow denser development? Land / road / infrastructure costs are huge. 12 small units per acre can cost waaay less that 5 big units per acre without any subsidy..... in terms of both land and construction cost.

What I don't like about denser development is that it creates traffic and environmental issues that seem both psychologically and physically unhealthy.

I think people deserve to have their space.

Capitalism requires government intrusion into markets.

Hey, I got an idea...

You know how we import millions of poor uneducated people every year to the jobs " no one wants to do"?

How about we stop facilitating human trafficking so we can import cheap labor and these jobs will have to pay something closer to what they're worth.

I think the downstream effects on homelessness will be significant.

The source is "George Carlin" from 1992. It was a good bit. Wish I could link the video but, well... It's George Carlin and this is CF. You can Google "George Carlin golf courses" if you aren't offended by really, really, really foul language.

He also suggested using cemeteries as they're a waste of space too. I'm on board with golf courses, but not cemeteries. Because, you know... ghosts.

Density is more efficient than sprawl because each person typically has less far to travel to do things (shop, work, etc) and less real estate to maintain. Traffic isn’t an issue if you design things properly.

It's off topic, but sure, let's beef up E-Verify and go after employers who hire illegals. Mitt Romney was not wrong when he considered self-deportation a cheap additional solution to the problem. And the Deporter-in-Chief had a lot of success with his focus on the employer side of the equation.
