You quoted it without reading it: "That is an entirely separate subject..."

The fact that more disabled people will need restroom assistance as time goes by is not a separate subject. Eventually, this subject will not be able to be dismissed/delayed, but I know that time is not now. This is too easy to disregard for now. A fact we became resigned to some time ago.

And when the women's rooms reach capacity they will take over men's rooms. And when seperated many people feel uneasy bringing their kids into the "wrong" side and the occupants also feel uneasy or surprised. And men often have unaccompanied kids. And disabled sometimes need help from assistants who are not the same sex.

So rather than pander to the majority, everyone should be as ease with public bathrooms and get used to multiple gender facilities.

Maybe where you are from.

I have seen queues outside the ladies and none outside the men's room.

Parents should take their child to the parenting rooms -which if American updated itself to modern times they would have.

Disabled people should use the disabled toilets. Please tell me the US at least has those?

When the final history of America is written, after our empire has collapsed into the dust of history I hope there is ONE THING that future generations know about us and one thing only:

We were literally OBSESSED WITH BATHROOMS.

3/4 of our politics revolved around bathrooms. Entire "culture wars" were fought over bathrooms. One political party developed much of its platform around bathrooms.

If our actual name is long lost to history, we will be the Bathroom People.

There is usually one disabled stall in the women's room. Not sure about the men's room. It helps many. It does not alleviate the issue of opposite-sex parents needing to help their disabled children with public facilities. My hubby cannot go into the women's restroom and wait in or outside the stall while our child uses the facilities.

So not a separate bathroom with a wheelchair sign on it? Here it is completely separate, non gendered. Parents will sometimes use it if there is no parenting room.
You open the door (full size door) and it's a room with a toilet, basin and hand rails and lots of free space.

Almost never a separate bathroom. It is simply a larger stall (about double the size) with handrails in it in the women's restroom. I presume the same in the men's. Usually, the disabled stall uses the same size/height toilet. Almost always the same sinks, hand dryer etc. Very rarely there is a lower sink that they can use since the normal sink is difficult for someone in a wheelchair to use. Almost never a lower soap dispenser, hand dryer or paper towel dispenser. In other words, not wheelchair friendly.

Yes, those are appearing more and more in the US. Not so much in small, old businesses, but more and more often in new facilities.

And because of such poor designs and construction, by men, they occasionally take over the mens stalls.
The ladies are not amused.

Like Coffee4U, I've never seen that happen. As I've said, I've see lines outside the women's room when the men's room was empty. My wife and I have discussed that phenomenon, because that's what she's seen as well.

Some people think kids are small and don't vote, so let's ignore their problems.

I think if you took a poll, you will find that women in general are probably want separate restrooms more than men. Women do more in their restrooms than men do.

Relying on polls we wouldn't add ramps on any doorways or have cut curbs or grab bars on toilets. I would much rather have a coat hook and a shelf than grab bars. Maybe a wet bar instead of a grab bar. And more privacy. The walls should come almost to the floor instead of room to slide under. Not that many people slide under the walls in a toilet that we should leave room for the sliders.

I have seen it at large events- sports arenas, concert venues, etc. women will just give up on the long line and go into the mens.

That’s not what I have seen on these forums. It is usually the menfolk all up in arms over the horror of mixed gender facilities.

l have resorted to using the men’s room, the empty men’s room on occasion.

...and women have the good sense to realize men's rooms are the most disgusting places on earth.

I had a man come in and use the facilities while I was in there about 20 years ago. I was not upset or freaked out. I just presumed the men's was broken. We both performed our tasks and went on our way.

I have never seen any nudity in a women's restroom. There are locked stalls for when one is unclothed. If a woman is seen nude in a public restroom she wanted to be seen nude so no harm, no foul there.

As for predators, the misdamenor charge of being in wrong restroom will not stop a felony of rape or kidnapping. If that was their intent, removing the the misdamenor will not encourage them any more than their deviant mind already intended.

BTW, this was my position before my child was ever born. Using a restroom simply should not be this complicated. Use the restroom of birth sex period!!!! But wait if you really look like the other sex then use that restroom, but you really should be using the restroom of your birth sex.

What I get out of this discussion is people who are different who still make us uncomfortable should just stay home, out of our sight, and they should not impose on us at all as we don't want to be uncomfortable or put out in any way.

Having the “opportunity” of cleaning 24 bathrooms per night in an office building, I can confirm.

When I see these situations, I have addressed the lined-up ladies, saying "If anyone's interested, there are 3 empty stalls here in the men's room, and no one in there except me. You're welcome to use them." I've always had some takes on my offer.
