  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Jesus said, we worship in vain when we keep traditions over commandments. Matthew 15:3-9. There is no Sunday-keeping commandment, but there is for Sabbath-keeping. Spoke by God and written by the finger of God! God said, Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. Exodus 20:8 The Sabbath commandment is more than just not washing dishes or not doing chores. There is no tangled mess if you follow scripture.
What you have not recognized is that God never ever has asked Gentiles to observe a day. There is not Sabbath keeping commandment for Gentiles period. The command to keep the Sabbath was initiated after passing through the Red Sea. Had it been initiated for man in Eden wouldn't you think God would have stopped the flight out of Egypt to observe the day. Afterall it took over six weeks to reach the place where they finally stopped and were given the Sabbath.

Your argument appears to be with God.

Exodus 20:8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

This is God’s holy day and the day He commanded us to keep holy following His example. If you are looking for the “gentile” gate only into heaven you will be greatly disappointed because the gates are named with the tribes of Israel and those in Christ who are grafted into God’s Israel .i.e God’s people, will enter.

God bless and Happy Sabbath.

I agree with the scripture, but I don't think it relates to you stating the church is the master of the Sabbath, which there is no such scripture. The Lord sets the standards for His commandments, including the Sabbath, so the Lord is Master of His Sabbath which He said was made for man. Mark 2:27 and man was created on the sixth day Genesis 1:26 before the very first Sabbath. Soon, His people will be worshipping Him in-person on the Sabbath day for all eternity! Isaiah 66:23
God bless!
Yes, Jesus sets the standards for his commandments. I would just expand on that idea by saying that as he is, so are we in this world.

The church is the body of Christ on earth.

As Jesus set up the church, "Most certainly I tell you, whatever things you bind on earth will have been bound in heaven, and whatever things you release on earth will have been released in heaven."

And on the new moon also. I don't know why you quote Isaiah but exclude the new moon celebration?
I just came across this the other day. It looks to me like a prophecy yet to be fulfilled. The Sabbath and the new moon are grouped together, so that's probably what Isaiah means as well.

Ezekiel 46 This is what the Lord God says: The east gate of the inner court is to be shut on the six working days, but on the Sabbath day and on the day of the New Moon it is to be opened.

It's manmade tradition that conglomerates church going with sabbath keeping as being the same thing. Which is not what God wrote in stone with His finger.
John 5:19 needs to be understood in context to chapter 6 and 7 WHERE the Sabbath is still the topic. Jesus sheds more light into what it means to be of God.

In verse 7:23 Jesus basically tells them how ridiculous there stance is that He violated the Sabbath because He healed someone. Judge righteous judgment.

John 7:16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
John 7:17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.
John 7:18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
John 7:19 Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?
John 7:20 The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill thee?
John 7:21 Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel.
John 7:22 Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers) and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man.
John 7:23 If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day?
John 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

That interpretation and view has the body leading the head and not the head leading the body and is the same as saying "the Church is the Lord of the Sabbath" which is in disagreement with the head of the body that says "the Son of man (Jesus) is Lord of the Sabbath" (Matthew 12:8; Mark 2:28). You may want to think that one through a bit more as it is not supported in the scriptures
Yes, it is saying "the Church is the Lord (Master) of the Sabbath".

An arm doesn't move on its own, it's directed by the head.

So also the body of Christ doesn't move on its own, it's directed by the head, Christ.

So when we see the body of Christ, the church as a whole, making a move, we know that it comes from the head.

Of course individual people within the church can go off the deep end. That's like a nerve going bad and causing a tremor.

But looking to see the overall direction that the head has led the body throughout history can be helpful. It doesn't replace the scriptures, but it can help us interpret them.

It's very easy for us when studying as individuals to get seduced by our own biases and blind spots!

Your argument appears to be with God.
On the contrary, for you to write that the Sabbath is for "US" is directly contrary to what scripture tells us. It was given to one nation on this Earth. I have been refuting your posts since you started posting and you have never ever proved differently, you just completely avoid debating or showing me where I am wrong. Why do you bolden "you" in the paste below? Do you really think that means everyone? Even me, who slept through most of my English training, knows who the subject was.

Exodus 20:8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

This is God’s holy day and the day He commanded us to keep holy following His example.
Be careful what you tell others SB. If we are to follow Jesus example of doing what He did, we would be keeping the HOLY feast days and new moon celebrations. Would you be a good example to follow? How are you coming with "keeping" those days??? Is the SDA church helping you to celebrate what Jesus celebrated?

If you are looking for the “gentile” gate only into heaven you will be greatly disappointed because the gates are named with the tribes of Israel and those in Christ who are grafted into God’s Israel .i.e God’s people, will enter.
Look, Jesus came to give Israel and Judah the new covenant. Jer 31
Instead because of His love for all mankind He has included everyone who accepts Him as Savior. Jn 5:24 I need not worry which gate I will pass through, that would be worrying for naught. Jesus is the way and He has the way.

How absurd for you to write that I will be disappointed.

God bless and Happy Sabbath.
I wonder why you mention "happy Sabbath" to someone that doesn't believe in Sabbath observance. Are goading me?

I sure don't see any point in turning away from orthodox Christianity in order to pursue a tangled mess.
Hello Brian, can you please tell us what exactly your claiming is a tangled mess? I do not understand what your trying to say here.

Take care.

Fact is though according to the scriptures, Sunday worship as "the Lords day" is a man-made teaching and tradition that has led many away from Gods' Word to break the commandments of God. There is not one scripture in all of Gods' Word that says God's 4th commandment has been abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a holy day as a memorial in honor of Christs resurrection. Even Jesus in His own Words says that if we follow man-made teachings and traditions that break the commandments of God we are not worshiping God in Matthew 15:3-9. Right here is a tangled mess of putting the teachings and traditions of men in the early Church that break the commandments of God above Gods' express Word. God's 4th commandment "seventh day" Sabbath is exactly what God wrote with His own finger and spoke with His own Words, not the tangled mess of "Sunday worship" that has led many away from Gods' Word to break Gods' 4th commandment.

Take Care.

Sorry Leaf I cannot see your view supported in the scriptures here. How can the body be directed without the head (Jesus Christ/The Word). If you disconnect the head from the body it does not work because it is dead. For me I see your posts here as seeking to put the church above the Word of God which is not biblical or supported in the scriptures. Is that what you believe?

Take Care.

No Bob, @SabbathBlessings was right the first time. According to the scriptures, if any of us disregard the scriptures that teach us how to follow God through faith in order to live in a life of known unrepentant sin while rejecting what God's Word says then our argument will indeed be with God because according to Jesus, it is the Words of God we accept or reject that will be our judge come judgement day as shown in *John 12:47-48; Hebrews 10:26-31. Let's pray that this is not the case with any one of us here because when Jesus returns it will be too late for many that had the chance to hear and follow Gods' Word but in heart chose not to.

Take Care.

Isn't this exactly what you are doing? Sorry but I do not wish to copy you which is why I do not judge you (see Romans 2:1-12).

Take Care.

There is more to not judging someone than just quoting scripture...

Then we have scripture that says...

1 John 2:3-4 [3], And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. [4], He that said, I know him, and keeps not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

No one can therefore claim to know God while living in a life of known unrepentant sin or claim to believe God's Word but do not do what God's Word says. (see also 1 John 3:6 and Matthew 7:21-23). Anything else that is not genuine faith that leads us to obey what Gods' Word says is simply the dead faith of devils according to James in James 2:17-26. Gods' Word does not teach lawlessness (without law). Gods' salvation is from sin, it not an excuse to continue to practice sin.

Take Care.

So you are saying that those you dialogue with who don't keep Saturday Sabbath are liars, with no truth in them ???

You'll probably get "Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven"... "And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'" (willfully disobeying the law of the sabbath) Matthew 7:21&23 along with similar passages. In other words, those who don't keep the Saturday Sabbath are not saved. They are not a part of the remnant God has chosen for salvation.
